That's why I implemented the veto mechanic. Get rid of a shit genre (most of the genres submitted already have been pretty solid) and replace with a wildcard. I really don't think there will be anything as bad as Italo disco this time.

Funny thing is, the reason I became lukewarm on the genre challenge as the editions went by is that I always was assigned genres that were no challenge to me at all, like progressive trance, progressive house, nu jazz, ambient or UK Garage. I actually WANTED to end up with stuff like hardstyle or italo disco, as I don't think I have ever attempted to mix those genres. This is the nature of the challenge, however. Getting dealt a disappointing genre is a risk you have to be willing to take if you want to participate, no matter how bad luck you may have had with the genre draw in the past.

Anyway, fuck it. Put my name down as well. I'm sure I can find the time to throw 45 mins worth of tunes together if things get super busy. The genre I'll go with is industrial music. Whoever gets the genre can decide for themselves what they want that term to encompass, as much as I cannot stand VNV Nation, :wumpscut: and all those other poppy groups that came out of the genre around the late 90s. As long as I don't get to hear Nine Inch Nails in the mix, I won't complain too much.

If money is an issue, that's understandable. But if you claim you don't have enough time, I point you to the first page where it's listed that you have an entire month to do your mix! Unless you're leaving the country, I have a hard time believing that people don't have 3-4 hours to carve out in 30 days to research, purchase/download music, and record your mix.

I'm traveling around for the first two weeks of September, then moving from Seattle to London and beginning grad school. September is a rather busy month for me If you extended this through October, I'd definitely be in, but two months is a rather long time, so I understand why you don't do that.

The deadline isn't really a hard deadline, and I will accept late mixes. Especially in cases as particular as that.

Look, as long as you DO the mix that you are assigned EVENTUALLY, then you won't be permabanned from the competitions Just let us know your status when I put in extensions.

Well, my study abroad there in 2012 meant I needed to take another year to finish my undergraduate, so I wasn't ready for grad school until now. Why'd you leave now, huh??

I'm in, with the caveat that I'll probably post my mix sometime in October lol. My suggestion is Nu-Jazz / Acid Jazz / Jazz House / etc. I know those are all sort of different, but I don't want to pigeonhole it too much, especially considering I don't know anything about the genre.

Also, Nick, for the record, I also did a nice (in my opinion ) downtempo mix in round 4: http://www.tranceaddict.com/forums/...75#post10548175

Okay, you're in. Try to get it as close to early October as you can, but as long as you keep me updated on your status, you're good.

And I didn't catch that downtempo mix in Round 4! Updating.

The challenge starts next Monday!

Let's wrap up sign-ups and begin discussing the veto.

Jack, are you in? The pool of genres is significantly better than past competitions. It'll be fun, come on!

I'd have loved to get Italo Disco in a prior competition...

Lews, great suggestion... Acid Jazz/broken beat is a pretty diverse field.
