storytellers productions so good quality, congrats on stepping it up. 2nd one reminds me of evo8's stuff.
im no longer using reason and im using a trial of ableton, same old story though, bad mix bad musicianship; its wierd being stuck in what feels like mud the majority of your life but then you grasp the realization of it all. Does it come down to your DNA/Genes? is it a mental choice is it environment? a combination of the three? same can be said about everything in life if you ponder hard enough.
anyhoo, happy new years glad u guys r still alive |
You too bud. Take care and all the best for 2022.
Short reply as I'll be out the next days. Please keep up the clip (both msz and systematic) if you want. That way I can give you my 2 cents next year.
It's all of the above you mentioned. For me lots changed last since 2016 with kids and selling most music stuff I had in 2018. Father had a stroke and sustained partial loss of movement capabilities a year ago. I prevented myself from burnout Q2 this year. Visiting psychologist still although that might be ending soon. I've not always been great but am in a fortunate position where I can get help or create circumstances under which I can recover. I switched clients as consultant few times to realize I needed to switch employer entirely. Only the last 2 yrs I've slowly been ramping up music production. Bought a great headset (B&W PX7) early on in Covid times which serves me well. Brought out my big gun dynaudio speakers again 2 months ago which I had been hiding the past 3 yrs.
Music wise a few things besides headphones amd speakers: switching to Ableton 10 (cytomic the glue came with it, awesome drum bus compression). Grabbing super cheap producer bundles from Ghosthack. Getting free license of my neighbor on Pianoteq (rhodes & piano). Buying a 2 octave midi keyboard 2nd hand from same neighbor which is a significant downgrade from the previously owned Access Virus KC I can tell you, but it works well . Buying cheap Ozone (eq & master limiter only I think) has helped a bunch.
Also a few Sol State videos on youtube in which they decompose some Disclosure tracks have been helpful. Some really neat production tricks in there without all the bloat. In 15 min you learn 5 new things at least.
That said, now that you're on Ableton too. Is it Ableton 10? Want to collab? I'm slow, but down for it.
@Darek: thanks! You've touched on my main point of concern. Not yet sure what to do there. It is closed to being done which is cool though. It really feels like I'm incrementally improving lately in quality and creativity. Great feeling to have which I've missed for many years.
