How are you happy with Mackies? |
I love them, they sound amazing for there size, they have a hiss sound when there is no music coming threw, thats about the only downfall, but they sure can pound, I have not taken them to there maximum volume yet, but have gotten close, and the sound quality does not drop on them, since these run directly from the mixer, I can only feed so much bass into them, and so the low ends are not huge unless you have a really bass heavy track, or you have a pre amp between them and the mixer to increase the bass, but when you do get a bass heavy track, these speakers shine considering they are only 12" speakers.
I have thought about getting a 18" sub for them, but I'm in no rush due to what these can deliver.
On a side note though about the bass, come to think of it I think this is mainly due to the quality of the music I am feeding into them, most the time, I have these hooked up to my iMac playing either a shitty quality feed or a low quality mix, add to that, the long shitty cable for hooking the iMac up to the mixer, and the shitty soundcards you get with built in soundcards, this is probably why, as when I play my beatport tracks (320k) threw Serato, there is PLENTY of bass and dynamics.
One last thing, I have heard one problem with these Mackies are the heat they generate, and that they like to shutoff when too hot, I have had them cranked alot and only experienced this once, with just one of the speakers, this was due to it being on the floor with the amp/heatsink up against a wall with a heater not far away, it didn't take long to kick back in, but would be annoying if it was a frequent problem, but then again I had them BLASTING away for awhile, just ask JDigitals roommates .
