Hey guys,
ive still been playing around with this song and from the original post its changed fairly drasticaly but I kinda like it, I tried to implement as many of the suggestions made as well as keep aware of my own itnernal feel, etc. I havent really mixed this yet, more about arrangement, etc. I dont know how much better I can get it in that regard, i'll just have to accept that this is where im at right now and will hopefuly improve as I work on more songs.
Im so used to hearing the original that now this feels like everything happens to quickly, but I do agree that the original was long. Does it feel rushed now?
Thanks,
This is really good. The only thing that maybe feels a little bit rushed is the second break. First time I listened I thought so. When listening again, I'm not sure.
But nice dark atmosphere and good soundselection.

Andy Imo: Clean mixes, very tidy sounding, maybe to much. I prefer the second one. The high pitched lead in the first one is a bit thin.

Thanks Evo, Yes agree on that. I love transients but I may be overdoing them.

cool. Too much going on melodicaly or rhythm wise? or both?
Can you suggest what you'd strip back maybe?
Probably is overcompressed a little, I dont ever master my own songs but when I do bounces of test mixes I like to experiment on the master buss with mastering, this way i can hopefully get better at mastering and make mistakes on mixes that arent going anywhere!

Nice track, very dark but I like it. Bass could be a bit stronger for my liking.
Its not bad at all, but you need to get rid of that percussive sound with the funny timing, it messes everything up.
Some harder trance here..
Its like the main idea I guess, its as about as far as I ever seem to get. Maybe I should collab with jp so he can make me an intro
Another Idea but not as hard
dig both of these, cool vibes. The high lead on teh first track to me sounds like its not sitting in the groove correctly, sounds as though its fighting against the pocket of the track. It immediatley made me feel a little awkward and took me out of the track. It sounds as though its playing its hardest notes on every downbeat or there abouts. Maybe play around with its velocities and get it to sit in the pocket and groove some more? Not trying to offend, just being honest! Really dig the chord progression on the second track, I wanna write some stuff like that some day!

You've nailed the sound I think, good stuff on both tracks, now finish them!
One small point on track one, that hi pitched leed that joins the fun after a while is too dry compared to the rest. Add some roominess to it.
I wanted to bring this track to you here as an example of devastating uplifting trance in case it helps you on your own journey.
This is from 2010 but IMHO probably the most uplifting trance ever made, especially the way he imprints such a strong melody with fantastic variations from about 2.20 onwards. I feel as if in the prescence of genius hearing this;

yeah, ye see this whole mastering thing is the problem, just FORGET about mastering until you have your mixes down. Mastering is to essentially make mixes louder and add a slight little polish here and there
If the mix is subpar then you are just mastering a subpar mix. Concentrate on mixing, which can take several years to get right - then go for mastering.

Thank you evo8 for your great originality of thought. That was really fresh and enlightening from you. My eyes are open now.

thanks mate, thats a great sounding track, one thing I need to figure out is how to get that (what I call) rubbery bass sound, it kinda reminds me of the bass in Gareth Emery exposure (which I f%$kn love).
Its juicy and has bounce to it but doesnt interfere with the kick. You got any tips on how to make that kind of sound? Do people still write this kind of stuff or is it considered dated now? To me it still sounds killer!
