For me it's the 5th bar of the stabs that doesn't work; it feels very weird to carry the same note through after the progression of the first four bars.

Thanks for the insight guys. I was looking for a techy and psy vibe at the same time, I see what you point evo and deegee.

Here's an updated version of the track I posted a couple of weeks back. It's still purely a headphone mix, so don't pay too much attention to the levels.

this has potential. currently for me the kick is letting it down - mix needs a lot of work like you say

Yeah, back site need some work to tighten it a bit but melody sounds really good - I still would like to hear some more action in this WIP but I guess for this type of genre it is OK the way you have it right now.
As far as your kick - doesn't sound to distracting to me at all but you could (if you are using Ableton) put glue compressor on your drums (with kick) to control its character a bit
Cheers,
Darek

Mixwise this sounds too wooden and the drums need re-doing from scratch as they are sort of acting like a drag on the track. I quite often find myself with this wooden / cabinet mix type and it's not easy to fix.

like the style of this, the bassline, kinda psy-ish?? i think you could do better with those stabs that hit the same time as the clap, doesnt work for me :-/
The kick is too detached from the mix and a bit loud. Maybe add some sort of roomy layer to it with a short reverb but make sure it sounds natural. The stabs etc could be a lot more in your face and a bit sweeter I think. I agree about one of the stab parts sounding dissonant.
The bass is tight. Overall could work well if you make some of the sounds more special and mix the kik better.

I quite like the track though.
The thing is, I've been working on this on the road while working and haven't had a chance to check out the mix on my monitors yet.

I really, really like this. For me (on headphones), a little spit and polish in the levels and it's done.
