The kick hits at the right moment and is in perfect timing in relation to the bass. I can't really get that perfect marriage between the two.

I've been tweaking today the compressor settings and am getting closer but still not perfect.
Definitely the attack plays a huge role in the way we perceive the kick and its timing.

The kick and bass samples fit together a lot better in this track than in yours. It's not a matter of timing necessarily, it's just selecting samples which work together. The kick in your track sounds very clicky, whereas the Monada kick sounds a lot tighter. I'd practice just putting together a bunch of kicks and basses for a few days. The more you practice it, the better your ears will get.

your song sounds fine actually, it's all in time....if you want the kick to "feel" more in sync than dont jus sidechain the bass, sidechin the rythmm and hihghats and claps, and lead...... and slice out a notch in your bass, and mids that is where you kick hits hardest.
