How you enjoying your SM9's? do you choose 2 way or 3way? can you tell the difference between the two with those badboys?

Andy, I think your bass line, arp and kick is killing all of your freq at the moment this is why sounds like everything is fighting for it's own space - idea sounds really cool but delivery will take some proper mix adjustment - my $0.02
Cheers man,

yeah theyre really great speakers - i could probably get better speakers but theyre not holding me back, they are more than good enough to mix on. Also youd have to take a big step up in cash. Monitors are very personal and hugely dependent on your room/treatment - if you learn your monitoring environment for long enough then i think thats the important thing.
The 2/3 way is a brilliant idea and you can really notice the lack of sub when you put them in 2 way mode.
Ive got caught out plenty of times thinking i had a big pounding track only to listen to it on my itouch and find that all that info was missing!
They help you focus on the upper range of bass and mid, this is where loudness/punch really comes from.
Theyre a lot of coin but id recommend them to anyone
a bit of dirt for you; it's kinda tech house/deep house.. 130bpm.
dirty by design..
cheers

If you're thinking of spending 4k on monitors without a treated room then you're plain crazy.. they won't help you get the sound you are striving for. (and I know no-one has told you to!)
has this topic become a general discussion? surely the place to talk about monitors and how to sound pro is in the main room..

I would get the source first than treatment, I wouldn't want to sacrifice on each i had to get both at the same time.

Thanks man - regarding this topic, it's just easier to find things in the main room, if I want to reply to you about general production stuff I have to wade through pages and pages in here - it's a confusing topic at best - I vote we go back to posting WIPs in the main page!

Create a poll, you'll soon find out what everyone thinks.
I'll reserve my thoughts for later, then I'll jump on the bandwagon
