Question Quick help needed on hooking up Xone 92/EFX 500

Can anyone explain to me quickly (need to know in a couple hours) how to hook up a Xone 92 and EFX 500 so I can assign the efx to one channel so instead of just running:

Master Out -> EFX -> PA

I can set it up like this:

Mixer -> EFX -> Mixer -> PA

??

Essentially I want it to run like it would with the Send/Return on the DJM series of mixers... If that's even possible.

Thanks in advance... Cheers,

Rob

No dont run everything through your efx all the time it will sound like shit. DONT.

step 1
Get two pairs of balanced 1/4" trs (tip ring sleeve) cables (not ts).
I recommend the brand hosa or mongami.

step 2
Look at the back of your efx unit and find the +4 , -10 switch.

step 3
flip that switch to +4

step 4

come out of the aux out of the xone and into the efx
with the two 1/4 trs cables

step 5
now choose between the first two (return) channels (the ones with the mic/line inputs at the very left of you mixer not the 4 rca channels where you hook up your decks and cdjs

step 6
After you have chosen one of the first two channels make sure that you are on line.
step 7
Now bring the output of your efx into that channel.

to effect a desired channel heres how you do it.

step 1
you hit the little aux button at the top of every channel on your mixer.
this sends that channel to the efx and from the efx back to the mixer on channel one 1 or 2 (the (return) channels with the big 1/4" holes at the back )

step 2
Now when you want to effect that channel you fade the first channel in and now you have the same tune on two channels.

step 3
you fade the channel (you have your deck hooked up to) out

But because its going into the efx PRE fade (via the aux send)the music will still be there for you (on channel 1) to apply fx.

Step 4
apply fx for as long as you like and then return to dry and fade another channel back in

step 5

fade the first channel out

step 6

hit the aux button again to remove any music from going to the efx unit.

repeat that process for any channel.

Hope this helps

Another option:

If you have an unused channel on the Xone (not an aux, a regular channel), you can feed the EFX box into that instead of the AUX channel. This would let you assign the dry and wet signals to the crossfader, allowing you to use the crossfader as a wet/dry fader (ala the Nuo 5).

Definitely recommend feeding it back into a channel instead of the aux rtn. Can eq it then too.

try running it over the master before the amp/pa- can work very very well if you know how. Especially ones like the transform effect.

Thanks for all the help guys! I did end up just going back into one of my line in channels that was unused and it worked great! I really like using the wet/dry crossfader technique... The only thing that's kind of a bummer is that we have 3 CDJ's and 2 Tech 1200's hooked up, so I have to run the effects into one of the line in channels that has a vinyl deck hooked up to the phono in, and so I don't think I'm able to affect that vinyl deck or use the EFX when that deck is running which is a bummer, but either way, I'm 99.9% CD now anyway, so it's really more of a problem for the other kids on the lineup than me

Thanks again guys, this will be huge for me over the next couple of weeks worth of gigs

The only problem with doing this is that your risk getting electronic feedback and more importantly the operating levels dont match.
Balanced signals (trs and xlr) operate at a hoter level than -10db typicaly +4.
Unbalanced signals such as rca inputs operate -10db.
The efx gives you two options

a keep your ins and outs at +4 or
b you keep your ins and outs at -10.

In which case your are coming out balanced so you need to flip the switch to +4.

if it's +4 it will be too hot of a signal for your rca input to handle.
If you wanted to do that you need to bring it down to -10 using a conveter (they cost about 100-150$).
For this reason only I recomend the return channels.
I could be wrong though try both methods and see what works for you.

I took a look at that mixer and the only way would be chaining the signal from mixer-> Efx-> speakers/amp
or hooking your cd deck to the efx with the switch at -10 and from the fx to the mixer.

i dont have a Xone, and at one point was just about to get one, when another user here offered me a Nuo 4 for a good price...but i must say, at first i didnt understand how an EFX would hook up to a Xone, and Now i do, and its a very very well written guide, users should bookmark this one, i just did, it answers a lot of questions at the same time...

Then, I blew out the candle.
