The Simple but good 2ch Mixer Thread

The original thread got deleted, probably because of a certain users posts (he is now suspended) so.... the highlights of that thread...

ah of course, the Nuo and the HAK series looks perfect. I remember now that I used to have a Nuo 3ch which was good but weird eqs (extremely big range of the mid especially). no big deal though. decent sound yes. the HAK line looks more what im looking for.

I really liked their build and audio quality but could never quite gel with the feel, the EQ always seemed a bit off too.

You can probably still fine one new and boxed (shit, i found my vestax new, unopened in 2008 when It had been discontinued in 2002 due to costing them too much to make).

You could go for a vestax PMC06 pro which is a beauty for a thin mixer but I never got why the EQ was only 2-band?

But the Xone23c is a good little mixer but you could just go for xone22 as there's some great deals on them now?

Personally, I don't have a problem using a discontinued mixer. Both Ecler and Vestax will have abundant spares for the next 10 years at least.

Fuck, I bought a whole second unopened vestax mixer just in case lol

What about a Vestax PMC 37pro? I think TA sr126 has one and loves it?

Love those little faders for the sweeps/eq.

in low budget area theres like 50 models and they all look the same, none of them have proper cue, booth out or balanced master and i bet the knobs and faders are plastic crap not to mention the sound quality of the riaa and the potmeters.

think im going back to thinking box
maybe the xone 23 after all lol

i dont really have a budget when i buy stuff but it has to justify the price and for this use (bedroom dj two times a month using crappy old vinyls) the price shouldnt be too high. but i do want balanced outs to my small PA amp and PA monitors.

still, not available. vestax does not exist in shops here in shittly oil norway. we have hardly any shops at all because everyone works in oil or are on welfare. wanna know what i have to pay for a haircut? 100$, more than the numark mixer

This is probably one of the good ones.

I'm very picky about mixers and its really a shame vestax is out of business. I like their layout and the quality seems good. Not like a shitty pioneer, I'm not getting a pioneer again after having djm300, 500 and 600.

What else is there really?

What are common defects on mixers, especially well-built ones like the ecler line? I've seen old cruddy numarks work great after over 20 years, the only mixers that I've seen had a fucked channel or some defect would be vestax ironically, of course thats just arbitrary.

tbh, the main thing that goes are the faders. Most crossfaders are user replaceable but often the channel (up) faders are not, and the cheaper the mixer the less likely they are replaceable.

On pioneer mixers the pots crackle and go bad after a while. Absolute fucking bitch to replace (i.e. not worth it).

On vestax the PMC range faders will eventually go bad but they're all user replaceable on that range as it was premium. The pots seem to be more robust though. On the cheaper PCV range that was launched later, those faders actually are good for 1m passes as they were conductive plastic. However the really premium mixers from Vestax like the top end PMC's (50, 55, 500, 37, 46, CX etc) will last forver. Built like fucking tanks. The other thing, is that even though vestax is no more, they produced literally tens of thousands of spare parts and many of the mixers used the same parts. Getting faders and pots is easy.

Ecler had fader issues when abused and they are not fun to replace. The part I didn't like about them is that parts at the best of times were not that easy to get. Now the company has gone under that is only going to be harder.

Interesting point you raise though about Numark; it was a different company 20 years ago. In the early 90's the former head of sales and marketing of Stanton, actually bought Numark. He was still a major shareholder of Stanton so it was kind of like Stanton buying Numark, although it was autonomous from the company. Numark had started out quite well built and good quality but in the years that followed the acquisition, numark became more and more a budget brand, basically catering to the low end/entry level market. Some of it was also market pressures - as the DJ thing exploded, competition really amped up and the most lucrative part of the market was selling cheap equipment to people startuing out, especially as Numark couldn't quite compete with the really high end models from Ure, Rane, Vestax etc.

So that's why you'll find really old mixers from Numark that have stood up really well.

The mixers you see fucked from vestax are nearly always the lower end ones which much like Numark, were the ones that were made to cash in on the lower end of the market.

Same thing with Gemini - they used to make mixers that would take an absolute kicking, even their really cheap ones but as time went on they became really disposable.

Allen and Heath don't have many problems - they always used good quality faders and came from a background of live sound and touring so they were built well, but I have seen some random failures with them such are PCB's dying or transformers crapping out. Still it's rare.

Question for DJ Sarah or anyone else. How are the DJ Tech models? Durability, reliability, sound quality, etc? I've been seeing these pop up. Two channel and four channel models. The reviews seem mixed, but I figure I'd ask you folks first. All my current mixers are Denon's (dn-x1500, 1500s, dnx-100), with the exception of one Vestax PMC-25.

There's really not that much info about them out there. reviews have been decent (nothing mind blowing) and durability seems good although it's early days.

one nice feature is the DVS connectivity (extra sets of RCA inputs) so you can have either your decks or CDJ's play via DVA whenever you want. I have piggyback cables that do exactly the same thing, so it's not a super selling point but nice that they packaged it.

Thanks to Sarah for resurrecting this thread (and no thanks to palm for deleting it)

I cant help on the DJ Tech Mixers, never seen one let alone use one!

I actually use a Behringer DDM 4000 at home and at gigs where I need to take my own equipment, its not really relevant to this thread as its a 4 channel mixer with tons of buttons and effects and displays, the complete opposite to what this thread is about, but I have had it 5 years now, its still looks almost pristine, its been dragged about from gig to gig, its been abused, had wine spilt in it, other DJs slam the hell out of the faders and EQs and its still going strong, no noise from the pots or the faders, they are all still smooth and everything works as it did from new, even all the knobs are still on it lol
My other favourite mixer which again, goes against the grain from most on here, is the Pioneer DJM 900 Nexus, I love using it in clubs and one is on my shopping list, my only complaint on the DJM 900 Nexus is that its overpriced (pioneer, what a surprise its overpriced..)

Yeah, overall, I'm not a fan of Behringer (for reasons too obvious to go in to) but every so often they get a product just right, that turns out to be amazing value and quality. Rets of their products are usually dogshit but at least they're so cheap that they are disposable.

I was looking at other options and found some custom options....new thread coming

Behringer has always consistently done speakers well. I still have my truth monitors after all these years and they're great. I also have a PA speaker that I bought to replace an Eon and it sounds just a s good and it's much cheaper.

Well, some of their products have been good. the Truths were fantastic value.

Honestly, I never liked Eons - always harsh and dull.
