Shelving EQ

I know for a fact this topic hasn't been discussed yet anyhow....

I noticed things that I want to be prominent in the mix but not interfere with Low Sub frequencies I would put the shelving, would it be wrong to do this on every channel to take out mud? or only the best of the best channels like stuff you're working around on, the core material?

I'm using FGA American Console EQ shelving on my signature sound designs.

So how about you guys, ever try to shelf things other than high pass or low pass?
