I would tend to agree with you on the bass. I do the same and try to listen to my tracks on almost any piece of gear I can.
In this instance however, it is sorta a "bass" track.
As well, to be quite frank, I also listen to tracks in the car which I have loaded with 2 12' JL-Audio 12W7's. Although these are beasts and can take it (and yes, I also realize that the ordinary joe only listens on their computer/ipod )I actually feel very underwhelmed when listening to this track in my car.
I also enlisted a friend of mine who does nothing but bass tracks himself and he felt underwhelmed as well.
I guess I am truly curious to which direction to take it. Today, it is true...majority listen to highly compressed music on their computer, streaming or ipod. I guess I am going to have to conform to that standard /sigh

Oh..and when you mean mid bass, are you referring to the sub or the saw?

the reason your possibly underwhelmed whilst listening to that track in your car is that i think that bass is more in the mid-range rather than "bassy" - i was thinking you could employ some sidechaining on that sound to make the track groove a bit more

I love the vibe on this one. It's summery prog without being obvious or contrived. Good work Domesty!

yeah it's nice, only thing is the kick kinda overwhelms a bit, bassline sub would be brought out more

sounds a little harsh or distorted to my ears but maybe thats the sound you are going for?

Posted by Mise on Sep-12-2014 09:04:

Evo, Honestly I was trying to sound up to date, thanks for your comment, I will keep it in mind.

That tail on the kick is deep and loud. It pumps quite a bit, I like that usually but its a bit too much. I can literally feel it push my eardrums inside on my headphones and they're not even put on loud yet. Maybe shorten the end of the tail, or at least put a volume envelope on the kick making the end of the tail less loud would help.

Maybe the kick in its entirety is just a tad too loud compared to the mix but I find that really hard to judge on a headset.

Good melodic work here.
I think you copped-out on the rise especially that pitched up part just prior to the drop. I'd say make it more professional.

This thing about harshness and distortion is an interesting subject for me just now. A lot of top rock tracks make huge use of distortion, so some listeners have an appetite for it, although it has to be the 'right' distortion - natural sounding. I suppose there is a fine line between nice fuzzy distortion and harsh fried egg. Your tracks distortion is ok I think.

I cannot comment on the kik lows as I cannot hear well on my work pc monitor.

Mise I reckon you can make a more interesting bass for the intro parts, it's a little static. Maybe a little syncy reso sweep on some notes would add interest?

hotness. love the bass especially. i'm listening on earbuds and the harmonics give a great sense for the low end.

here's one i just started putting together ideas for. been a while since i made something and changed tastes somewhat significantly over the past couple years:

sounds pretty great man. it reminds me of my friend Ghostea. with the 808s and especially the 808 bass drum for the bassline. nice pads, chords and textures/astmopshere and gritty percs.

Aye +1 thats a good wip blue shift,

start sounds great- I like the bell eq high up.
when the bass comes it's weak - mainly because your kick is doing the job of bassline already. the bass synth needs to be more mid-bass and have a load more presence
2:17 break is great - but a little too long cut in half before the new saw comes in
picth wheel could go higher

doesn't deliver when it drops back in.. shame.

has potential 3:06 onwards needs to go and be re made to deliver on the promise - it has more energy in the first 16 bars than the whole of this section

hope this helps

c'est un pue generique
needs a bit bmore grit, and a lot more bass definition to get there.

not much to talk about as it's so short.

Deep, dark, menacing yet eminently danceable.

This has plenty of flavour and goodness to enjoy, maybe the bass needs a bit more prominence and grit and that big old noisey snare is perhaps a little too loud or long.

Oh yeah I'm just putting ideas together at the moment, havent even touched any mixdown process yet. Thanks!

Can't comment of bass line as my armature in ear headphones really wouldn't do the justice but this jazzy flavor is clicking with me - imo you are going right direction my friend

Shadow Inventor - WIP (Anakratis)

This is the style which always was and will resonate with me - give it a run and let me know what you guys think about it (like a style, energy, vibe, groove and melodic development?)

Thanks

not sure on that big vocally thing but thats just personal preference, track grooves along nicely

lovely sounds as usual! - one thing tho, that clap/snare isnt just sitting nicely for some reason, i think the sample itself is ok but maybe just a little too upfront?
