hey,
I have some questions to alonzo. Maybe you wrote it before but I haven't read all pages (lol:P).
How are your speakers called? Are they good? They looks like big bombs

Where did you buy your monitor stands? I want to buy for myself becouse I have big speakers too (not big as yours) and i need massive ones. How are they called?

Cheers,

Mat

Unfortunately, my picture isn't as awesome as Cryo's.... but my Nikon digicam also only cost $100. I believe Cryo's said that he now has *two* expensive hobbies.

That's my cat Oreo taking a rest on the Andromeda. Cat-dromeda?

I'm not in the second-hand market ATM, anyway. The Andy is definitely not going anywhere, the only gear that I may sell is the Waldorf Q and Pulse... but that's *very* preliminary. Most likely they won't, but a Virus C in place of the Q and Pulse is a little tempting.... just a little.

In response to the person who asked about the monitors, they're Focal Twin 6s and they're awesome. I hope their sound quality never degrades on me because I see absolutely no reason to ever upgrade.

These are the stands I'm using, although I bought them used on eBay for 1/2 the price : http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/ESS42BSL/

Also, the neck-strain caused by having my LCDs so high was a bit much.. so now I have my Pulse, TX802, and ATC-1 on the right side of an LCD, on the top shelf, with the 2nd LCD on the bottom desktop towards the edge... I'll post a pic eventually but I know there was someone asking about neck-strain. The answer is that it did cause neck strain but *only* when the LCDs were mounted on-top of the ATC-1 and TX802.. when they're on top of the wooden shelf, there's no problem.

Wow, you are one fickle dude! Just last week, weren't you raving about the Pulse and bashing the Virus?!

I think you should donate the Q to me.

Blah blah. The Pulse and Q are both quite nice, I'm just not 100% sold on them yet. I'm really loving my ATC-1... it's the most "analog" instrument I've yet come across (including the Voyager). That may (perhaps) prove the Pulse to be useless. We'll see, though.

The lore of the C is mostly that I *really* do want to like the Virus, I really really do. So I'm hoping that maybe the C will be more to my tastes since it has no "Total Integration" which will make it feel more like an instrument (maybe).

May I recommend the Argosy stands, either the Classic or the X-Stands. Very stable. I have a pair of the X-Stands that were the same amount. X-Stands are great for landscape oriented monitors such as the Focal Twins.

Hey Alanzo, thanks for the update on screen height and neck strain.
I decided against buying a desk like yours - I use my computer for work and OHS says the top of the screens should be at eye level. I will have to rack my gear to the side.

lol I clearly shouldn't have skimmed half the posts

Expensive stands...damn

The way I looked at it was: If I'm spending $3,000 on monitors, I can afford to buy $250 stands.

$250 for 4 pieces of MDF and some screws? lol wat?

You could DIY something infinitely superior to these in a day, for 1/5th of the cost. These wood-plank style stands have low mass, which means they're going to get a lot of resonance though them. The typical home made PVC pipe stand is far better - load them with sand for super mass and acoustic madness. Alternatively, you can just go the 6 pieces of MDF (make a square tube) and sand-load that.

I dont do DIY, I'd rather just pay for it than have to mess with all that. I'm a musician not a carpenter.
