Been producing on and off for several years but decided to take it a little more serious this past year. Here's a track I'm currently working on. Has a oldskool trance feel to it but the BPM is slower to fit with today's music. Composition is no where near finished. If anyone could provide honest feedback on the mix and overall idea of the track, that would be awesome. (Be as harsh as you want :whip

Edit: changed hats

Solid trance track. The piano fits in well without any problems, however I think it lacks a bit of character. I think changing up the melody/baseline or both for the last 8 bars will lead the track into the break a lot better. Also makes it more varied and less repetitive.

Andy I like where your track is going and agree with your comment it could use some sort of vocal, even if it isn't much more than a few words.

I ditched logic for cubase and reason rewire then came up with this. Opinions welcome.

Nice mix and quality there Paulino, composition wise it's like a standard background so not much to say on that front.

How do you find Cubase?

I've just upgraded to latest version and find a lot of annoyances such as it never saving my quantise settings, always defaults back to straight 16 with no swing.

Thank you Richard, I like cubase so much and internal synths are so easy to program like prologue. I'm really into music making that i bought an extra daw (cubase) and reason essentials to go with it. The reason i got [reason] is using the redrum computer isntrument rewired to cubase feels like a real drumming session. Right now I'm trying to fix a problem where i can see where i move my midi notes and when I hold left click on midi key editor screen i dont see the see through blue box anymore.

Just restarted my mac, apparently it was a glitch in cubase. Things back to normal.

i think the kick is a little too clicky - so i would try to find a better one for a start
sub bass may be slightly too heavy - try to get the kick and sub working together

Sounds fine on my system. The kick is great fits perfectly for uplifting. Bass sounds alright nothing wrong there imo. I'm pretty much liking it.

Alright I'm ready to finish this track. Break down and climax ready.

Posted by djnitride on Aug-27-2014 18:18:

Sounds like the timing is off on that panning noise Juan. I could see that part of the song sounding really good if you fixed that.

I would work on the mixing a bit for the breakdown, I think the pad should be quite a bit louder and you should mix down that panning effect. The vocal sample is also really quiet compared to the other elements there.

sub is way too heavy imo and the kick needs more midrange

i like the atmosphere you have created but i think it lacks a little sparkle, add a pluck synth to move the song along.

Posted by PaULiN0 on Aug-27-2014 20:15:

Thanks guys, Yeah i can notice the timing of the delay is off, I did it in logic and put it in cubase. lol

Agree with above statements but I think you are on right path man - got some good and solid base for some melody to be develop on it.

Cheers,

Darek

Yeah I learned how to fully use the autofilter modulation capabilities in logic so i forgot to set the tempo of the my project from cubase and things got mixed up. I need to put some time on using different filter plug ins.

Cheers Domesty and Rich for the comments.

Really like this, had me nodding my head as it went along, was gutted when it finished tbh... Don't like that vox sample at the start though but thats the only thing I can nit pick at (and the fact its not finished!!). Love the bass, sounds really good.

Everything sounds great, I love how your tracks sound overall JP, you just need some good chords and melody to really drive home your tracks.

Agree on that, all your tracks have a nice atmosphere, beats and bass but they are missing a good melody / rhythmic progression to really drive them home.

Will try my hardest on the melody that can really shine on the track and drive it full on. Thanks again guys.
