I'm probably going to write up a review of all these synths in a few weeks. I'm also on the lookout for a Studio Electronics SE-1X to throw into the mix.

My initial thoughts on the two are that they're both very cool and useful, but obviously very different. The Voyager is pure phatness with lots of hands-on control, whereas the Mopho is much more flexible (in terms of modulation options), offers a much wider range of sounds, and actually does a pretty decent Moog emulation. Both are pretty incredible. You may want to give a lot of consideration to a Dave Smith Evolver or Mono Evolver Keyboard as well.

Looks sweet Alonzo, the Andromeda takes most of the attention though, such an awesome looking thing.

Looks like you should've gone with the rack version of the Poly Evolver, alanzo!

Nahh. I got the PEK for the same price or just a couple hundred more than the PER. If i had a MEK to control the PER I would have, but using just the (somewhat inadequate) software or PER's knobs just wouldn't do it for me.

The Andromeda's really are massive aren't they.

Quite nice. I really like its sound and I also really like the patch bank I made for it. The only draw-back is I wish it was multi, or at least fully dual timbral (split-keys are your best bet for dual timbral).

It has eight voices and four TS outputs. To me this means it should be able to work as four 2-voice Prophets (in mono). Not so, unfortunately. DSI said it was primarily intended to be for performance, but a software update in the future may bring full dual or multi timbral capabilities. To me, that means 'don't hold your breath'.

Really, not as big as I thought it was going to be. Unless you meant the sound, then, yes, it's more massive than you can possibly imagine. The Andromeda is it's own synth with its own character, but the filters were very closely modeled after classic Oberheim and Moog designs. Because of this it can emulate those and other classic analogs very well in addition to marking its own sonic territory.

Nice Studio Alan it looks a good setup for flow work as well.

Yeah, that was a crucial part of the studio design. I wanted to be able to tweak everything without having to get off my ass, basically.

Got a generic Midi Keyboard Controller also...and a set of monitors that i am too ashamed to even mention....

Actually your studio looks a lot like the rooms of the (film) composers I work with. Good job.

Best studio in the thread period. Not sure about those monitors tho

Those monitors are arguably the best on the market right now at that price range. They blow most speakers at $1000 more out of the water.
Search for Eric J' review on here.

In fairness they're not that well known yet, but they are amazing.

Posted by alanzo on Feb-04-2009 15:22:

I wanted a dual woofer design, one woofer for bass and one for mids, rather than a separate sub since I don't like the idea of a 2.1 system.

For a dual woofer design in a room my size, it was between the ADAM P33s and the Focal Twin 6 BEs. I got the Focals mostly because I found a great deal on eBay ($1,000 off retail). And because had I gotten the P33s, I may have eventually felt a need to upgrade to the S3As which are ridiculously expensive and huge. So I didn't want to be tempted to get them.

They make a HUGE difference. The only disappointing thing about monitors of this caliber is that you'll start to notice how poorly most electronic music is mixed.

your far from done, u need a new room, a bigger room!!! ASAP!
im pretty sure u could sell some of the VAs though, the virus will cover all of them pretty much and a moog could replace what the virus cant (waldorf, clavia is pretty pointless in this case). do you have two prophets? you should be getting a machinedrum to compliment drums to all those leads and strings

the monitors are the best thing about the whole studio imo

I haven't gone too deep into the Waldorf yet, so I don't have much to say about it. The NL3 definitely kicks the Virus' ass, though. I <3 the sound of my NL3, it's so punchy and techy. Awesome.

But some may find their way to eBay. The prophet and blofeld are the top two on this list. The Prophet because the Evolver is a four voice Prophet '08 paired with a four voice Prophet VS. The Blofeld because it's a VA... and I mostly bought it on a whim and a good deal. We'll see, though.

I may get a Voyager RME eventually, but that much money for only a single voice.. just doesn't seem right; especially with the Andromeda in my arsenal. I'm sure I'll get a Moog at some point, though.

All fine and well Alan, but where the hell is you're comfy cushioned-chair that was in you're old studio pic?

That was the best part imo. Have to say, loving your focal point's though.
