give em a little time. like 1-2 weeks of everyday listening. its then you'll hear their full potential, INCLUDING bass response which is amazing! believe me, when I swapped my Technics RP-DJ1210 with the MDR7506 I was like "wtf someone pulled the cottonballs out of my ear??!? i can hear!!!!"
yup once they burn in they sound even better
shit people their not thhaaaaaat good. yes their ok and much more solid that anything else, pluss very softsound who save your ears (v700:whip. but the sound isnt very clear, rich or detailed. and the bass is way to deep/smooth warm. upper bass/down mid area pluss very high treble is almost not present. which is also why ur ears can go alot longer on these tho.
These cans are so comfy that I wear them when I'm not even listening to anything......
i have the mdr-v6 and i'm completely happy with them, i actually want to get the allen and heath headphones.

Originally posted by palm there are many standard things in a studio that aint very good really. look at the old version of yamaha monitors, they werent really that good. infact they where almost only midrange so that the producer would try to correct that and fill up with bass and treble, this way all records start sounding warm and bassy which again sounded good on crappy stereos which was part of the point. sony mdr-v6 are probably standard beacuse they are very cheap, very much avaliable and pretty good, + that people knows them and they are easy on the ears. u will have to double the price if not triple to get much more detailed sound but in many cases this is not important. a singer for example only needs to hear her voice and u dont need super headfones for that. |
the whole point of the NS-10s was thay they sound shit- like most peoples home hifi...
get a mix sounding good on a pair of ns-10s and it will sound good most places

i didnt say it was the aim- or intention-of yamaha.
Ive worked in enough studios and sound related things to know what im talking about-both with regards to these and the sonys- but i respect your right to have a differing opinion.
We will hve to sgree to disagree.

Interesting thread!
Was searching for this pair at amazon, but seems like they have 2 versions of it?
Called:
1)Sony MDR7506 Professional Large Diaphragm Headphone
w/Blue stickers
2)Sony Pro MDR-7506 Headphones
w/Black stickers
Anyone knows the difference between them - Which one is the best?
And, in the Headphones section on Sony's homepage I can't find these phones, which I find strange. (Maybe since their kinda the same as the V6, which is listed, as stated before in this thread)
But anyways, It seems like they have the MDR-V500DJ phones as their DJ flagship (together with the 700). Anyone who have tried these, or knows the difference compared to the MDR-7506 - for dj use?
I just got these on eBay, brand new for $58 incl. shipping. I've only had them for 30 minutes, but holy fuck are they impressive! I find them to be very comfortable, and the sound quality is spectacular even directly from my laptop. I'm glad I bought these.
for reference purposes, can we get the velour pad replacements link in here?
anyone?
here's a link i just found after some digging, in the first page gluegun says they're the Beyerdynamic DT250

I picked up some replacement pads.... now my old MDR-V6's feel better than new!

Well mine have just fucked out on me. Can't say I am too fussed.
Anyone willing to pay shipping can have my pair of 7506 and revel in the wack ass donkey dicking in the ear canal of a life time in exchange for any reasonable closed headphones, the cable is literally about to fall off by the capsule otherwise the cans are fine.

contact your local sony parts retailer with the product code
there's a reason why studios have had pairs for over 20 years, fix the little things that break over time
You guys really are a piece of fucking work.
Accept the fact they suck arse.
I know about the diagram. And I also know that Sony charge $60 for the cable, and will only provide it if you get it replaced by them, which involved sending it off.
Which takes a few weeks, glad I'm not professional depending on that kinda shit service, all my other cans have wire that clips in and out, and can be bought from the internet and delivered next day.
And Tony, I had to find this out through internet work, I called two local Sony retailers and they didn't even have the headphones on their database let alone the spare parts. In fact they didn't even know what to suggest other than google it, I'm guessing it's cause I didn't show them my I'm a professional card though. Fuck.
*In before use another brand cable and DIY, that's what professionals do.* I'm already on that ******.
