yup, the option was crap speakers or awesome headphones, so went for top headphones.
S
ome nice monitors will be my next buy, in the next few months hopefully... i reference my tunes with some comp speakers i have here occasionally, but yeah, the headphones are generally pretty solid...

Posted by Zak McKracken on Dec-28-2008 14:08:

need some new headphones myself soon, the sony mdr-v6 are terrible for producing, everything sounds good on them.
now mine looks like this lol, fucking nice to be sitting in a chair again, compared to be sitting on the floor.

Posted by EgosXII on Dec-28-2008 14:52:

yeah mate well the 240s are ridiculously nice:
1: they're comfy as hell, have worn them for around 3 hours at a time, and absolutely no discomfort, and they fit perfectly etc
2: sound is impecable, and revealing, the mix is really clear in them

-havn't had too much experience with good speakers etc, so can't really judge the difference, but 240s are deffinitly all i will be needing for headphones

you can look and find some studio versions of the k 240 series and they're going pretty cheap atm as well, as they've been superseded by the k 242HD (same interior, different colour scheme, no detachable cable etc), or pay a bit more and get the MK IIs like i did

and lol about the headphones, my $70 comp speakers are the same, they have shit definition which means shit stuff actually sounds alright in them... funny how that works

Short speaker stands. They seem awfully low to me.

Posted by Zak McKracken on Dec-28-2008 22:29:

their 70cm. normal heights for speakerstands but its not optimal for producing thats right, their more suitable for when ur lying your couch listening. i dont care right now tho caus there are other problems here like resonance etc that is much worse than the height of the speakers. some day i might get them up on the wall or something.

Wow that is short. Only reason I was saying it is because it's so much nicer having the tweeters at ear level. I stuck mine on a couple of phonebooks and it's great.

Not essential but definitely better for monitoring

Not really no. Apart from softsynths, haven't added anything to it yet.

Mainly because I had to finish uni so I left production for about a year, spent cash on traveling and when I produced with others I just went to their place lol.

Will try and add a new table and speaker stands soon, and then hopefully in the next 6 months an Alesis Andromeda A6 as a graduation present for myself once I get a full time job. Fingers crossed

Oh and yea yea, I know, I need to stop forum whoring and actually go and produce something. I get sidetracked too easily

pffft: what makes a producer: talking about it or getting tunes released...?? You're covered either way, ME on the other hand...

what course are you doing/completing?

why don't you just put them on top of cd spindle boxes?

Besides that, Ikea does those phone/screen-swivelstands that let you move left or right what's on top depending on your needs. I still have mine although I have quiklok stands today.

Posted by Zak McKracken on Dec-29-2008 16:56:

it really doesnt matter the way things are here now. also these monitors are abit agressive in the treble so by not having them directly into my ears all the time i can go longer. i have alot more trouble with resonance in the bass and those stands helps alot on that beacuse their very heavy.

I just finished Bachelor of Biomedical Science.

Yes, finished and I'm so glad I'm getting the hell out of uni. Was doing my head in after 4 years.

she quit the research lab she was working at to get the phd diploma, and is now teaching nature and science (chemistry, biology) at technical schools, less hours for same each month, which means 80% more than me with the music and bookings ;-)
