might go for a solution like that myself soon.

There's actually two windows but they're quite small (both like the one in the 3rd pic).

The good thing about my basement is that it's quite large, and has tons of crap in it...so we don't get much sound bouncing around. Much better than my old studio (which was in a 10x10 room).

Yea, my new room here has terrible acoustics unfortunately.

Wait until Macworld 2009 in January. Rumor has it that Apple is going to announce Quad-core iMacs. And more details on Snow Leopard will be given too by then hopefully.

How do you cope with it at the moment?

Posted by Storyteller on Nov-27-2008 06:47:

I don't, I just produce and see. :P

Still waiting for some invoices to be paid, then I can get started on getting the acoustics sorted

How about a new mac pro? Any rumors? I really want to get one, but it would be a shame if they came with a new model a few weeks after I bought it.

I doubt it, they just came out with the 8-core Mac Pro's last year.

Actually, January this year
But according to MacRumors' Buying Guide it's best to hold off from buying a Mac Pro right now: http://buyersguide.macrumors.com/#Mac_Pro
Maybe some announcements about these at Macworld too? But as often with Apple, you'll never know until something actually gets released.
Best is to keep an eye out for Mac related websites like MacRumors, TUAW, AppleInsider and Ars Technica.

I'm a bit curious about that controller, i really want to get it as it is cheap and looks pretty solid (plus i have seen PVD uses it live). Can you give me some pros and cons of it please?
And yeah i will also be using it for reason.

not really, it does what it is suppose to do, i thought i had latency-issues with it but it turns out that was soundcard settings-issue and asio4all mess. u dont need to install anything its just plug n play. i use it it reason and it works nice. the knobs and faders feels cheap and i doubt it will last long, i just got it. i would want more buttons tho (one or two over each channel would rock!). its not very expensive tho so just buy it.

Posted by dainja on Dec-01-2008 16:30:

Definitely feels REALLY cheap and I'm not convinced it'll last long

But it works. A few of my friends use them...

I disagree. The new Macbooks don't have Firewire so they're completely useless for production. USB sound cards suck.

If that was a picture of the new Macbook Pro I'd agree. God, those are sleek. I want one so bad.

I disagree. The Apogee Mini-DAC has USB... but it can only do 48khz under this vs. 192khz over firewire. But even with the Mini-DAC at 41.1khz, it still doesn't suck.

OK I'll clarify

There are VERY few good USB soundcards. USB just isn't the greatest for high speed audio applications, especially if you multitrack.

Apogee is very expensive. You can get a good FW sound card for 250$, whereas a good USB sound card will run you 500-600$+, and be worse than a FW card for that price.

You're better off spending the extra dough for the MBP, the regular macbook doesn't really have the performance you'd want for production anyways (IMO).
