So then it's obvious that the most logical solution would be to replace the lesser known genre with its more recognized counterpart: "tribal house". Right?

Posted by Mattsanity on Aug-29-2014 02:27:

No, because now it's become a bland genre that has lost its microcosm of a specific sound. Hard House and Tribal House for a stretch, were intertwined in many NY tracks. The reason why NYC Hard House is a legitimate tag is because it automatically sums up the sound, the years, and the culture.

Why not just take my advice and go with hard and tribal house, which gives you a bigger pool of tracks to play with but doesn't place the emphasis away from the garage-y elements?

Posted by ziptnf on Aug-29-2014 13:17:

Because more sand will get in Mattsanity's vagina

Seriously though, I updated the original post. "NY Hard/Tribal House"

Can we fucking leave it now and focus on the veto? Or should we just skip the veto and leave all genres as is? I'll keep in mind your personal vetos.

I don't think any trades need to be made. This looks pretty solid. But if anyone really wants one, both parties need to express interest.

Remember that if you do not do your mix, you cannot enter in future competitions!

The challenge begins now!!!!! You have until October 3rd to submit your mix. Happy mixing

During this whole time of everyone bitching at the what NYC hard house is and is not, I've been meaning to just go in and say that I would have love to get this. This stuff or at least the stuff that also go under the term circuit is material that I quite like but I rarely play in a set.

Posted by Mr.Mystery on Sep-01-2014 07:33:

Sooo... what's liquid funk?

Edit:
Oh, I see. Prog breaks at chipmunk speed. Check.

As far as some pointers on "industrial", the kind of stuff I had in mind goes something like this:

Most of the stuff on Blackest Ever Black fits the bill as well. Like I said, however, since "industrial" spans so many sub genres, and is more of an approach rather than a genre, I won't be too fussed if the mix contains stuff like, say, power noise or EBM.

"Funky breaks?" Well, in that case, I think I'm just gonna dig for all the old tunes everyone else sampled over the years, and see if I can't pull out some less familiar ones.

Posted by Mr.Mystery on Sep-01-2014 11:12:

I think I might cook up something extra special for this, if I've got enough hours in the day... stay tuned.

Posted by Mr Game+Watch on Sep-01-2014 15:02:

No clue what hard trance is, honestly... Sean Tyas type stuff?

Posted by Mr.Mystery on Sep-01-2014 15:33:

What I had in mind for hard trance was something like what SHOKK/DuMonde/Alphazone et al used to do, but there's a pretty big variety of sounds to choose from.

The most basic way to describe it would be that it's harder (duh) sounding than regular trance, and more melodic than tech-trance.

Posted by Bierheld on Sep-01-2014 16:30:

Well, I was already mentally preparing for getting NY hardhouse. This isn't far off I suppose.
So instead of a very specific ancient NY genre I get a very ambiguous one. That'll be fun.

I'm hoping I can find enough of it on BP otherwise I might have to switch over to UK-garage, although I've never been a big fan of that sound and I'm assuming that's not what wotyzoid intended anyway?

Posted by jonmitz on Sep-02-2014 19:46:

got back this morning! wont be able to start looking at tracks for this for a while as my apartment looks like a homeless shelter threw up everywhere.

Ahh, I think I have some idea what to go for then, thanks... Would you count Marco V as hard trance?

Posted by SYSTEM-J on Sep-02-2014 21:40:

When I was a lad and hard trance was so popular you could buy compilations of it in the supermarket, there were two main strains. You had European hard trance which was DJ Scot Project / SHOKK / Fluchlicht and was basically Euro trance pitched up at +5. Then you had UK hard trance, which was more like (not-NY) hard house with big trancey melodies over the top, made infamous by labels like Nukleuz and Tidy Trax. Stuff like this:

Ah... those were the days. Anyway, quite a lot of this old stuff is on Beatport, so you shouldn't have any trouble finding enough tunes.

Oh, well it's too late now anyway. I've already spent too much time searching around and buying the music. Maybe I'll end up with a fancy combination of the two.

These ones I don't have (and the last one I can't even remember). If you could upload them to a dropbox or something at some point, it'd be cool.
