Modded KRK's (the woofer), why? And what does it do?

just a single full range driver man. echosystem is right. the driver is made by jordan loudspeakers. it is very similar to the 92/92s driver but has slightly different t/s parameters to my spec. get yurself some of the 92's. they are awsome drivers even if stuck in a quickly thrown together wood box.

new moulds are coming back to me soon so production will be restarted on these beasts. and a sub with 3 way amp/controller built in is on the cards. figures should be about 500wrms total into two cast speakers and a 10" transmission line lf box.

that's a studio RTA desk. I got one, except it's a smaller desk - called the RTA Studio Creation Station.

google it, and get one. Very quality and the price can't be beat.

I just noted that some V6's have black woofers instead of the obvious and known yellow ones. I saw it in an ad of an old music magazine... strange .

yeah these were purchased a couple of years ago with black woofers...not the usual yellow ones...to me it makes no difference.

New PC (w00t)

Intel Q6600 Quad Core CPU - 4 x 2.4ghz
2GB 1033mhz RAM
Dual Widescreen 19" LCDs

Virus TI
M-Audio 2496 & Keystation 61es
Sony MDR 7506 headphones..

I guess I should invest in a pair of Mackie HR824mkIIs at some point...

EDIT: I use what you see exclusively for music. That PC has never been linked to an internet connection, rendered a game, or played a movie. Just music production.

I love your setup, it seems so cosy because it has that simplicity to it. You should definitely invest in some monitors so you can take full advantage of it.

How are you liking the quad core?

The CPU is AWESOME. I don't even think about resource management anymore. I can have 100+ FX plugins and the CPU would still keep truckin' along. I pretty much exclusively use samples, ROMplers, and the TI, though, so my CPU usage comes from the effect plugins. My last track was finished and would play at 30% CPU usage.

Nice setup, very similar to my own, though ya definitely invest in some monitors.

With the virus providing the bulk of my sounds, I don't even know what I'd have to do to hit max CPU usage in Ableton. In my current track I have something like 8 Antares filters kicking around and a bunch of native effects, and am hitting 35% =P

I switched to quad 2 weeks ago, and it's an overkill - in a good way. I can't get past 40% mark on stuff I work on. It's just so much power...

Yeah, in the end, it's nice to not have to even think about your CPU any more. Only having to think about making a good sounding production.

My studio...by which I mean bedroom...by which I mean studio.

Setup includes CDJ-800MK2, DJM-500, KRK V6 monitors, Oxygen 8 keyboard, Edirol interface, Yorkville stage monitors, powered by a Quad Core 2.44GHz box.

Next steps include a 26" LCD display (and some hardware synths if I win the lottery).

Oh, and check out my latest track (and video) on myspace: http://www.myspace.com/djjackpea

Cheers!

i have the hr824's... and if you like bass, id say pass on these. unless you want to spend another grand for the hrs-120 sub that goes with them.

I intend to, actually.

The two are perfectly matched so that's why I decided on them.

I wouldn't say "lucky bastards".. It think I can speak for allmost everyone here who has a studio slightly bigger then just a computer when I say this: It has taken years and years of devotion and saving those extra cash here and there to buy the stuff. It's not like a studio is built over a night and we've got the stuff for free... So if you want some quipment yourself, then save up for it.. all it takes is some devotion...

Posted by Fledz on Dec-18-2007 01:45:

Hell yea man, I've made so many other sacrifices to pay for everything and I'm nowhere near done.

WTF? Are you serious?

The 824's are known for having nearly too much bass! At work we compensate the mix because when we listen to an 824 mix on other speakers it always sounds light on bass.

Buying the sub is just crazy unless you just want a really bass heavy sytem for listening to tracks, but in that case I wouldn't 824's (or even studio monitors period), rather some nice Hi-fi biased speakers.

Very true, one day I will be out of college & able to afford my own hardware. Than me and my new access virus will live happily ever after. =]

I bought 6 viruses while I was in college.

Virus Rack
Virus B
Virus Classic
Virus Powercore
Virus Rack XL
Virus TI

Not all at the same time, of course. It wasn't until my 4th year that I could afford the TI.

Edit:
Though my college years I also owned a Novation A Station, Roland JP8000, Nord Lead 1 and 3, Novation SuperNova II and an Alesis QS 6.1. Again, not all at the same time. The most I've had at the same time was 2 synths.

And now I pretty much just use software... (if you count the Virus VSTi as software).
