Hey SR126, totally off topic, but I'm hopefully moving to LA soon - where abouts you at?

Do you happen to know anything about the Los Angeles Recording School (LARS) or if the Musicians Institute (MI) is better?

Sorry for asking but can't find anyone who knows anything about these.....

honestly tho... i guess i'm not slutty enough to figure it all out...

i see a korg FX thing... there's probably a virus in there... either on the left or the right, i dunno... i'm pretty sure it's not a virus b, or virus c... i don't remember them having that many lights. i want to say that you're using a yamaha keyboard... and i don't recognise anything in the racks...

Not bad...

Curious if anyone could guess what the majority of it all is.

Posted by DJ RANN on Jul-10-2007 15:55:

Ok there's a Korg Koass Pad2 (on keyboard), Virus C (right), Lexicon FX unit (on left), Elextrix FX unit (filter queen? - near top on right), TC fx unit (lower left), and machinedrum (far lower left).

And Cubase SX3. Logitech optical mouse?

Posted by oran9e on Jul-10-2007 18:58:

and a waldorf keyboard in the dark? a Q perhaps?

i'm in the valley now. LARS used to be a 20min walk from my place, now they moved into hollwood.

i know LARS is more for the recording side -if you want to be an engineer. MI is more more musicians, and singers, but they have a studio also. my neighbor who is an MI alumni, recommended MI, over LARS. i think he told me that anything i wanted to learn at LARS i can learn at MI. i never attended either.

also, MI, and LARS are with in walking distance of each other... so why not attend both? ;-)

edit: i noticed you're coming from england. my neighbor who attended MI, came from france just to attend MI.

Ah, you don't?

Bear in mind that is the current culmination of over 15 years hard work, saving, buying and selling gear. And I've been writing music all that time.

I do. And I play live. And more importantly it's a hobby. So, what more justification do I need?

andromeda quoted my set up...

my set up consists of an mpc4000, an asr-x pro, 2 mc-909's, novation x-25 keyboard, and a yamaha 02r mixer. i don't use the computer much anymore for making music... i use the computer mostly for checking my email, and messing around on this forum.

the mpc4000 is my main sequencer, and sampler. i use the x-25 and the mpc to control the mc-909's, and the asr-x pro. every once in a while, i'll just grab the asr-x, or one of the mc-909's and jam w/just one box, if i don't feeling like turning everything on.

Great looking studio Storyteller! What is those stands under your monitors? You see, I got the same monitors and I would like to get them off the table surface. (Like you have now)

It's not a soundcard it's just a monitor matrix. The behringer one. It's absolute crap but handy. So affects the sound in a bad way . I'm hoping to get rid of it when I got new monitor speakers.

Thank you. I've got a wishlist hehe, I don't really feel the need for more gear right now. Mostly replacements. I want a better soundcard (audiophile 2496 right now), better monitors (got behringer b2031 now) and a better dj mixer (also cheap ass behringer). I expect a big check coming in, but I don't know when it's coming yet .. I'm aiming to buy a motu828 and some dynaudio monitors... Still debating between Air15 or the lot cheaper bm15a... I don't know... Maybe something else :P

Thanks It's foam. Just took it out of some box of something my mom ordered haha. So it's not paper :P. It was pink once, but the sunlight made it lose most of it's color. It's there to kind of disconnect my speakers from the desk and to prevent my desk from resonating. The desk still resonates. But way less than before.

I tried to order speaker stands some months ago, but the ones I ordered wheren't available anymore so I never got them and never took the time to get them either. On the other hand I just spent 450E on those 2 22" screens... Still quite a bit of money, but compared to todays prices it's been a very good deal .

Here it is, first phase of acoustic treatment up...

Posted by 3F05Q on Jul-15-2007 01:21:

That looks pretty sweet. How does it sound now?

Posted by Ray_Chappell on Jul-15-2007 02:24:

Thx. Man, it sounds WAY better. Before the room sounded somewhat hollow... a lot of wall to reflect and the angled wall itself can be a worst enemy. So, this is much much better. I still want to get corners behind me taken care of and add treatment to the very top of the ceiling and side walls. But this is night and day... I actually underestimated how much of a difference this would be.

u got too much money
