wait wat? i can't read ur text

Posted by Looney4Clooney on Aug-08-2012 03:28:

it hasn't been done. People have made , fav compressor threads, fav synth thread. And they are old.

This one will be done via a survey tool. It will include everything and it will have a few things you think RANN would put in his mouth styled questions. I've already started it. Just don't spend too much time a day.

Basically, i do things better. So even if it was done, this will be current better so for the love of god,

this is true. L4C will do it better than it has ever been done.

...thus my contribution to this thread.

Lmao this thread went south quick. I think it's a great idea to do it in a survey from tho so props to L4C. Would be nice to see what other people prefer for certain situations.

And you needed to bump it for.....?

(actually, it's not a bad idea - dave had started a thread a while back with your secret tips and tricks but I can;t find it now). I'd love a thread like this

I wonder what happen to the what you know now if you knew before thread. Anyway yeah, believe it or not I use to stick my kicks in my arrange window at 0 volume and have all my instruments mix down from there, later on I found out that was pure idiocy and did not know how to or hear the difference in compression.

When i experimented I'm like dang my kick -3 and its not as powerful or good as a pro track, stuck compressor for the first time, read a tutorial then stuck eq and bam, back to business.

So did with bass.

I wonder whats next.

dont get too hung up on compression, its not the be all and end all - get your mix right first.. sound selection, arrangement.......

Posted by TranceElevation on Feb-05-2015 19:09:

Sorry but compression is actually "getting your mix right first".

Volume balancing is just part of it.

Posted by Innocence Lost on Feb-05-2015 19:24:

I was about to say, mix than compression? or other way around

Elevation got it.

I think, you guys overthink to much
Really just make music, there is no right or wrong way and there certainly isn't a checklist or bucket list of stuff that you must have done before you're able to produce a track.
The biggest pitfall is spending too much time waiting on forums like these in vain, for the galaxy guide to trance to be posted here.
Do your own journey, don't remain in stand-by / dormant mode but ignite yourself and produce produce produce....
2nd thought i want to leave you with is, do your own thing, don't try to make "me too" EDM when pursuing personal fulfilment you will much more fruitful than trying to produce for an audience. The pond the overcrowded with fish. Don't overthink standing out, just enjoy your swim each and every day.

Stuff like compressor settings, ideal loudness, EQ tweaks all that stuff is not relevant in a generic applicable way. It's like a hammer and a screwdriver, play with them and you'll learn their purpose soon enough. People don't use hammers for screws neither do they use screwdrivers for nails... Stop overthinking stuff......

Words cannot express how much I agree with all of this. I feel a lot of people focus waaay too much on production when they should be focusing on the songwriting instead.

The end result is the only thing that matters. It doesn't matter how you get there.

guilty of it myself in the past. much easier to buy some new plugin than to come up with a nice catchy hook
