I wouldn't have called it an upgrade if it wasn't

It's been a year and a half since I last mixed. I stopped in a Nov, Moved to new house in Feb, and finally finished a spot for my cd decks.

minimal efforts...

All I did was cut two small angled pieces of wood for under support. For the top I cut a piece of cheap wood to fit, then screwed on a front piece. The top is just sitting on the supports. I taped a surge protector underneath the shelve above. And I fished 2 rca's and extension cord wire through the back of the book shelf and out the side where I plug it in.

Will it fall apart...yes! Thats why there are no detailed pics of under the new shelf. but maybe this will get me back spinning. I think I just about forgot how. I opened my cd book and the last cd I burnt was titled 11.15.07. yowzers.

Out of curiosity, I'm assuming that's the X25 Sefour table? I'm just wondering how you've attached the laptop to it? Is it a DIY job? Or a bracket they sell?

Also, how's the stability of the table? I was looking at getting something that's a little more portable and this could be perfect I'm just worried about it wobbling a little?

Cheers

The laptop is sitting on a Stanton Uberstand that is placed under the turntable. The stand is very stable. I Dj at a lounge in my building twice a week and take it down the elevator with me in one piece. The new version is collapsable. I spin on it for four hours straight and it's not wobbly at all with everything on it.

Here are some pics of my setup before I moved it all around earlier today.... and tidied it up (will post new pics shortly), room is still in a bit of a mess after moving stuff around right this minute....

unfortunately the desk I'm using atm cant fit 2 decks and both speakers on so I've had to improvise and put 1 speaker on top of 2 spyboxes (and a box) to be level with the other.... oh well, it'll do for now!

Posted by Ted Promo on Jun-16-2009 22:56:

lol, you have an actual legit desk for it. I've been using a dresser

Posted by notelfreak on Jun-16-2009 22:57:

make sure you learn to beatmatch in the cans to make sure you do it properly

Posted by enydo on Jun-16-2009 22:59:

I actually started doing that quite early, I can't really do it the other way.

That's the exact same setup I was rockin for awhile

Although I had KRK speakers and I've upgraded to a Rane Empath mixer since.

it is good to learn both, but with cpu speakers you will have trouble with knowing how accurate you are.;0

Yeah, I remember doing that first, but any more I listen to what's going on in the monitors more. Dunno, but I like to hear what everyone else is hearing more than just what's in the cans, I usually am off if I headphone mix the entire time. Tend to just rock one cup until I think it's there, then listen to monitors the rest of the way.

Also, clean my gear, Austin

and now's probably a good time to ask this, and maybe I should make a separate thread for this but:

Is there any safe method for cleaning the interior/lens of a cdj? I'm semi-apprehensive to use the dvd lens cleaner or shit like that because I figure there's some intense mechanism shit in the cdj that could possibly get fritzed if I were to put it in there. Is there car-specific lens cleaner, since the cdjs are slot-loading like a car cd player? Does any of this make a difference?

Basically one of my cdjs is starting to sound tired when loading a cd and sometimes it takes longer for a track to load. There was also one point in which the cdj literally froze, none of the buttons did anything, and I had to turn the power off and turn it back on.

Keep in mind, the cdjs were bought back in 2004ish, so I think they're just about shit out (at least the one is anyways).

Any help would be massive.

...so that Austin can clean my cdjs

i use my monitors too, what i meant is that with lower quality multi media speakers something might sound ok that really isn't
