I do find it easier when im listening to my track and then i could just hit some notes on the board and come up with a extra riff or what not. And i like using mine for Dj Mixing in ableton.

Here's my little studio.
Equipment and software:
AMD64 4000+ PC
23" HP Widescreen LCD
E-MU 0404 Audio Card
Propellerheads Reason 3.0
Alesis M1 MkII Active Monitors
AKG k240S Headphones
Roland PC-180A Midi Controller
Yamaha CS1X (Not pictured, because it's kind of crap)
TSM MT47 MkII Condenser Mic
ART Tube MP Preamp
(Don't use these two much at all)
I got the Alesis monitors today. They sound really good. The stereo imaging is amazing, the highs are a little sharp (But should smoothen out after the break-in period). By the way, I made those super funky speaker stands myself.
