Sorry to hear that Msz!

There really wasn't much to say on your clip as far as I'm concerned. I've always been a sucker for the atmospheric type of stuff. What could help is perhaps low shelving shelving some of the pads to reduce the low end. This should create some space for the low end to come through better.

Perhaps I'd have gone for some different drum sounds but nothing too special.

Thinking of it, what could help is something like Tokyo Dawn Records Nova, a free fabfilter like vst with eq-based compression. This could allow your mix to dynamically have more space for other elements.

If you'll allow me I'll hit you up in the DM.

Many thanks for taking the time ST.

there is a level of punch, clarity and dominance is sounds I have trouble wrapping my head around.

I know sound is subjective, however I deem this nice.

im not using any saturators maybe thats part of it, not matter how much I push that crisp punch is never there.

This guy has a production-making-of video, which helps in the matter, its nice to look at what other people are doing.

there are a lot of little tricks im sure im not doing, im basically just using a limiter, eq, compression. im a lazy guy.

dont waste your time on me ST, enjoy the christmas my guy, <3

No worries.

I haven't checked the videos yet but I'm going to assume sound selection is a part of it. Check your DM .

Merry christmas and all to all .

As you might see in the soundcloud widget there are some notes to self in there too.

Note: There's 2 mixes. The original and a house version (the latter in the playlist).
Looking forward to hear what suggestions you might have!

Rose Petal Rain - House mix is my favorite so far, has nice Housey flavor to it with well controlled dynamics.

Great start Darek. Happy new year to you too! Maybe the rhodes are distorting a bit much (saturation plugin perhaps?). In the end when the vocals come in, maybe try and duck some of the mids on the instruments. Vocals and instruments seem to be clashing in the same frequency range. Good work

Definitely good insight! I actually use a pretty similar approach. More than just samples though, it seems like it's just about trying *something* new. New VST, new init synth patch...something out of the proverbial box. I mean, I'm not a vocal trance person, and had a song develop just from playing around with vocals and vocal editing tools.

My favorite thing is playing around with new and interesting lead-synth sounds by themselves...or making one from scratch.

As far as the way I feel...I'm definitely not bummed in relation to what was said, though I appreciate the advice. More tongue in cheek really...I mean, it'd definitely be a nice "problem" to have. But, having gone the leisure route, where din-din doesn't rely on the success of the next big idea...I feel rather fortunate that I have the luxury of binning ideas that aren't 100% interesting to me, while being able to take my time with things.

I'm just picky nowadays...And I think that's ok.

Have definitely had an interesting shift in perspective over the years though, with respect to songwriting. The objective of sitting down used to be a finished song...but now, the sitting down and just playing with music and being creative, has become the important part. The levels of venting and catharsis that playing around in a sequencer gives...I've found to be unrivaled by practically anything else...(rated PG-13, at least...)

So, regardless of whatever happens, I have a good 'ol time in the sequencer whenever the mood strikes...and if a worthwhile song happens to present itself, then I consider that a nice bonus!

It's...definitely an interesting conundrum. The ideas that appear to require a ton of "effort", have never been the ones that seemed like they were worth committing the time and effort to finishing...And the one's that write themselves, are so effortless that commitment isn't required. It's hard *not* working on those ones...until they're finished.

Original will def. be a very nice tune with some vocals added. Can definitely tell there's vacant room for 'em in the original mix.

House isn't really my cup of tea, though objectively I do think the original has a fair amount more character and groovy-ness than the house mix, as is...definitely a lot of potential in both mixes though.

I like the sounds, mixing and the idea(s) quite a bit. Not much else to add unfortunately.

Only minor nitpick is the D# from the piano stabs over E. Really quite noticeable when it's exposed at 2:07. Diminished 7th perhaps? Not the most pleasant of chords, given how pleasant the rest of the mix is.

Not sure how to fix though...usually just fiddle around with things like that to make 'em fit. Unless it's a sampled line...of course.

-Edit- Out of curiosity...ended up plugging in the chords by ear and fiddling with it a little bit...one solution seems to be repeating the octaved C# instead of moving to D#, and moving from B/D/F# major triad support to E/G#/C#/E as C#m resolution with the C# on top. Seems to work ok, though it's a little less punctual.

Here'd be the example of such noodling around with it. Maybe this helps? Maybe it doesn't...Same count as the break...with the original included, followed by the aforementioned suggestion.

TheTA · Rose Petal Piano

Might have missed some of the passing notes or undertones, but...close enough anyway...

Well done thus far though, and best of luck on finishing it out

Thank you very much for the thorough reply, will be looking into it! Honestly I don't know anything about chords, it's all by ear. The piano is just an (altered) translation from audio to midi of the guitar.

❤️

Hi Phil, this is quite interesting creation man, some clever blend between different type of instruments - really like it. Work on your kick - make it more prominent in your production and create some space between your instruments to avoid clashing in your freq.

Cheers,

Darek

I like how it builds up modestly, being big by keeping it small. Bass might be a tad to loud, it distorts some time.

After the 2 minute mark the guitars might be a tad too loud. After that my headphone battery gave up.

Love this, would favorite the shit out of it on spotify.

Hey Darek,

Good vibes. Bass feels too high (notes) to fill up that low end properly. Soundwise it doesn't really sit well in the mix for me either.
I think you know why you were asking the question .

So, I came on here and was going to post another WiP I have been working on but stopped myself and I began contriving thoughts about here on TA-PS Forum.
As you all are aware, I highly endorse other styles of music on here other than Trance and I do believe there have been those that have contributed the same over the years.
We also haven't seen a TA Mix Collab in years and it has been a very very very long time since I have heard a dedicated "Trance" WiP. So...
You guys up for a challenge in a short return to our Trance roots?
