Yeah, that'd scare the piss out of me. I have a really strict no-liquid policy. If someone's drinking around the decks they can't be too close, and no beverage is allowed to sit on the table unless it's on a surface lower than all of the gear.

The guy's got balls.

i am not using the digital outs, because i have original CDJ1000s. they have a digital out, BUT, in digital mode, the CD can only be played normally. pitch, scratching, looping, hot cues, searching, even cueing is disabled on the deck in digital mode.

and both those beers were mine

just realized who this is and laughed my ass off. reccess.co.uk was my dj learning archive back in 97, when i was using virtual turntables version 1.80 with a crack and a headphone splitter to mix.

now, 10 years later, i have a whack of pro equipment, a slew of gigs under my belt, a production company, and recess is asking me for advice! killer

Gotta love it.

When I was researching the book, the amount of people who I'd get in touch with who said pretty much the same thing, that they'd got their starts because of my site was incredible. Kinda humbling in some ways - in others, I think 'Damn, I shoulda written a book years ago'.

As to the CDJ thing - I did think that, but wondered why you still use the Mark 1 1000's when you obviously seem a 'kit-head' and go for the good stuff - so I thought I'd ask.

Cheers for clearing things up though.

indeed, it was a great resource, i learned the foundations of beatmatching from there.

and yes, i am a gear head, and would love to upgrade my CDJs. but pioneer has simply priced them too high!

i could sell my CDJ1000s for about $600 each. new CDJ1000MK3 are a whopping $1585! so, i couldn't even afford ONE new one if i sold both the old ones.

for now, they do the trick, and are not worth spending another $2500 or so to upgrade to the MK3s. i decided to upgrade my mixer instead, since it is the heart of the system.

Moved my room around and put my decks under my window. I also found a small light thing that I can hang from my blinds. This is the result...
