This isnt a dig at anyone in particular - but after seeing many of these photos it amazes me the amount of people who spend shedloads of cash on gear, and then put their monitor speakers on desks or bookshelves. Its insane.

For gods sake people go to Argos and get a £20 pair of proper speaker stands, the difference is incredible.

Or better than that go get a £200 pair of pro ones!! dribble

Posted by Four_On_Four-er on Apr-30-2006 03:28:

HA!

Then you are going to laugh up a hairball when you see how I tried to get around my monitor placement delima (photo pending).

Ho an earth can ppl afford all this equipment....half you lot have got studios that would be welcomed in a top studio in London. ALL I HAVE IS A COMPUTER.

Posted by tranceinjection on Apr-30-2006 11:01:

Jester

Most people just start with a computer or their family are musical and they just borrow the equipment.
Some people are bank robbers and can go out and pay cash for their equipment;-) some have good jobs and buy some much gear a week.
Some buy their wife or fiancé a cheaper ring and spend the rest on equipment ;-) some just save up for a year and then blow a grand or two on things they drooled over all year.
Some get higher purchase or blow insane amounts on credit cards; some sell their grandparent’s brother’s sisters etc to Microsoft so they can experiment on them to see why they use a Mac.
Some just buy second hand gear and hope it lasts them, some get paranoid and wish they had bought new gear and start making pop music.
The point is that they started with a simple computer and built up their equipment over time, some birthday Christmas money was well received and well spent.
Or you could ask the one hit wonders like hear say to sell you their equipment cheap?

Ps, The other half pinched the equipment from high end London studio’s :-)

Like I said before...

Years of dedication. It's not like some of these studios were built overnight.

Yup, i thaught i would never have anything. But now i have already spent over $3000-4000 and im 15!!
My rules...
Only buy new cloths if you gotta, only eat what you gotta, only spend money on transport when you gotta, when you go to the movies dont take a girl and if you do take her, dont offer to pay you fool! Make sure you get student fees if you can. Dont get a large popcorn ;get a small, the hell with it, dont get fking popcorn! If someone at your work asks if you want to take there shift you say yes and ask if they have any others or know of any other free shifts.
If someone says they will give you $5 to suck their ....
ok maybe to far but you get the point.

It all goes to hell in the end. All yo need now is a pretty fast computer and you can do just about anything. Don't bother with all that hardware. i started as a hardware man so I can never convert, but I suggest you stick with software. Most of it is much cheaper and you can get the same results. Its all about what you can do with your tools not what the tools can do for you.

Yeah, not that impressive. I wrote the softsynth myself in C++ though. It generates 4 waveforms including the DJ Tandu - Ayla lead. And sometimes I sample the cat! Sometimes all it takes for that perfect hi hat sound is recording its hissing.

And hey crrrazydan, what a surprise to see you here!

Ahmen!... I'm planning on being conservative with me extra spending money -- still, I'm all software except for this JP-8080. I tell you, it was worth it! Maybe it's because I'm always a work-in-progress, but there's something about how certain synthesizers sound. They are unique to one another, and architecture seems to have a stronger emphasis on how an oscillator sounds.
