Kind of unusual...I LIKE IT! Sub bass is gnarley really dig it!

Side note - Nice to see all the tracks you guys are posting..good stuff, keep it up!

-------------------------------------

New Drumstep track from me, kind of different but had fun on it. Sub seems to have these sporadic clips that I just can't wrap my head around.

absolutely. when this thread started a few years back it was amazing!Such a valuable tool. Ive been away from producing, and this forum because life just got in the way but back on it now

the way i see it the more people post and feedback, the wider the range of genres the better it is for everyone

cool track. the atmospherics and feel are really cool I agree the kick isn't quite right, it sounds to punchy in the highs and the low end of the track doesnt quite blend into one solid whole, which i think is quite important in this style of genre. I thjink its peaking a little too high? Maybe try a more typical DNB kick?

also i think the main bass riff, which plays on one note, although its a really cool sounds i think it sounds too thin and could do with more processing perhaps maybe more subtle layers of distortion (do you use izotope trash 2?)

anyway that is obviously just my opinion. I think you could smash this genre if you keep at it, and thats what its all about right

with the sub, you mean at the beginning of the sound, like in the attack phase you get clicks? Ive experienced this a lot. Seems all you can do is play with the attack on the synth, low pass the sine (which you are probabrly doing) and make sure the OSC is set to "triggerd" rather than "free" (different synths seems to call this different things) youre prob doing this already though right. Serum seems to have a tighter attack on a sine bass than say massive

one thing ive done in the bpast to remove those awkward clicks is bounce to audio and remove the clicks with izotope RX. works flawlessly but is of course a bit time consuming

Posted by SystematicX1 on Jul-11-2017 04:19:

appreciate the feedback guys, and yea listening back something dramatically changed on the last bounce. It was not as "open" and much more compact in tonality. Going to have to dig deep on the last save.
Thanks for the tips on the sub. For sure low passing but have never messed with the "free" , will give that a try, good tips..gracias!

edit: on re-listen, maybe its fine the way it is!! love it man, reminds me of the old prog stuff

Thanks! The synths (except the vocals) are all Korg (Mony/Poly). I always put a ton of FX on everything though, so I'm not sure if anyone can even tell

Warning: more weird music

Friend asked me to make some instrumentals for him to rap over. Not sure what happened but it ended up in some kind of weird trip hop / dub / trance fusion.

How is the idea / execution? Not fully mixed yet and no vocals.

WIP. it needs more. Im trying to go for less of a song, more of a banger this time which is a little uncharted territory for me. Any thoughts very welcome

This is very cool and mix is clean and strong. Needs more, but it's promising.

Very nice Woony. I've always like the sound you have, but must admit that latest track you posted were pretty lookalike, this one is unique.

Yeah, it's a bit weird thanks to phased voice. But everything is working - bass, nice arp and drums. I like it. Mix sounds good to me, but i'm really not an expert.

Main thing I would work on is mixing, the chords are trapped behind that wall of sound, need to bring them out a bit with EQ, and sidechain the kick to compress the big pad a bit.

This one has potential imo.

Hey, thanks guys! I'll try to clean it up.

Evo, can you please give me some track timepoint where you feel that chords isnt matching the bass. Is it by position or pitch?

think its just pitch, in work so cant listen back, i love that bassy synth but the rest just doesnt fit around to give it that big feel if you know what i mean

Posted by Mr.Mystery on Jul-12-2017 22:12:

I think it's just that all of the sounds are very wide in the EQ and stereo spectrum, so the end result is that they all mash together and nothing stands out. If you cut the stereo spread and frequencies on some of the synths you'll get a much cleaner and balanced sound.

The track itself is definitely worth further exploring, as the others have said. Very interesting.

yeah really nice mellow vibe. sounds real nice

i think the main problem is that your music is in a minor, sounds like your main chord is a/c/e minor triad

your bass (which isnt really a bass, more like a low string) is suggestive of E minor. Its moving from through the root, third, fourth and seventh of the scale but always moves back to the root of E (which is the 5th of A minor, or the top of your chord)
This gives the kind of clashing/dissonant feel. If anything its usually better to have the bass instrument play the root of your chord (not always OBVS)

If you want to keep the sound just write a new part for it based around the scale of A (and go low A not high). that would prob work v nicely but then your kick will need to provide all the low end energy to the mix (unless you add a sub too)

then you need to sort out the mix as suggested there is a lot going on in the low mids IMO but this is mostly just to do with pitch

Thanks, Chris! Yes, main chord is a/c/e, and "bass" main is e. Trained ears I'll try to see how it works with bass on "A" scale.
Even though i like it the way it is now .

It seems that i've accidentally put a reverb filter on master channel, and the default limiter on fl master channel is pretty cranked up on "gain" function, that's why everything sounds so wide.

I have no idea what this is or even what genre to put it in.
Very raw wip atm with some placeholders still in.
Had to make a composition change and not sure if I like it this way or the other way..lol
