@Darek, I feel the low end is quite lacking. I hear a very very faint bassline. Personally I don't feel the kick either. I think changing these 2 parts in the mix might pull the entire mix together. Good luck

@Constantin, I have to agree with Darek's feedback. Work on seperating instruments a bit more with some surgical eq-ing and sfx. Furthermore try bringing out the high end more to improve clarity.

Really enjoying this, lovely melody line in the break.
I think it could be improved in the drop, particularly the lead sound choice as for me the one you have just now is a bit harsh and kinda generic. Get that right and you're ready to go. IMO of course...

At the moment I'm waiting for official vocal recording for this track but as place holder in structure creation process I used some different vocal steams (from Amy) lol, have fun guys:

Cheers,

Darek

Nice warm sound quality here and a floatey kind of track that is easy on the easy. Still not keen on some sound choices like the little leed thing that is the first you use - a bit shrill on the ear sometimes.

Post up once the vocals are on it, interesting to see how it ends up.

Second the lead being a bit harsh, and there's something off about piano melody at 2:30ish it does not gel well with the main 8ths loop "feel" of the track. I think the least 3 notes of that piano melody should be just 2 otherwise it just does not fit rhythm wise.
So yeah, post the track once you get proper vocals.

2:55 stutter is fucking nasty. Would sound in place on a brostep track, not lyrical epic trance. Other than that sounds nice enough until the drop, and obviously from the drop needs more work to finish it.

Something like tech house is asking for a good judgement.

Nicest around the 1.15 mark, but the bass is not sitting well and the attack of the bass seems to vary from quite sharp to less so, so the bass for me needs attention. I like the actual bass notes but it needs a more pro execution than you have so far. I also listened on small Dell speakers and the bass was distorting the track.

Ok a bit later on that syncy lead comes in and keeps then popping up, for me it spoils the atmos[here you have. It's the sort of thing maybe that could make a very brief appearance IMO.

Better to do away with it and focus more on the stabby relaxed feel you create around the 1.15 mark.

All IMO of course, lol!

I can't tell if the bass goes deep enough but I'm pretty sure at loud volume it will pound like mad. I'm feeling it. Nice tiny sfx in there and very entertaining to the ear. Well done, don't make it too long though I'm guessing that is the only possible pitfall on this . Unless you freak out like mad later on.

I updated it - still aligning the vocals. Hope to finish this shortly thanks for the advice and thoughts on this and the deepish house one

@ SystematicX1 - Yeah, we will see how much I will have to adjust this track to vocal lol - it may take some work to balance nicely everything together, thanks man

@Storyteller - Very good observation about bass line which is already on the list of required adjustments (either by playing different note, EQ or even by shifting to different octave), appreciate

@Richard Butler - yes, sounds choices or selection is in many cases a personal think lol and I'm always after nice flow and balance with respect to melody and atmosphere which I want to create, your opinion always count my friend

@vercetti - some interesting point you made man, as far as white noise, yes will be adjusted appropriately when I get final vocal into this track also piano "does not fit rhythm wise" statement need to be check out farther as so far I'm not hearing the same issue as you are but I can tell you one think that one setting in Kontakt piano was off a bit (detuned parameter) and sounded really weird so thanks for this

Really appreciate to all who was listening to this production

Darek

its good man I don't expect any mixing issues from you but just kind of seems like ground that has already be covered, years back even. it's good for what it is, 2008-ish adamK/deadmau5 proghouse/trance

I wouldn't say it's "not sitting well" it's just a mixing decision, it's a bit boomy but I think overall everything is pretty balanced. if anything my qualms are with the drums, just kinda repetitive. if anything i'd make it deeper by focusing on the bass/perc and not so much the acidy synth part. has good atmosphere in parts and i think that could be focused on instead of the acid synth part. i think some minimal use of that in parts could enhance the atmo. cool for what it is tho.

this would be a pretty solid idea except the kick just completely disappears in the mix. a bit whimpy. a kick with a tight transient and a presence in the bass area would bring it around but idk what that would do for all the other elements drowning the kick, even if they are nice sounding

Sorry Jesse I didn't realize that this comment for for me lol - Yeah, I hear what you are saying but at this same time you can say this about 80% of the dance music production -> good melody and good quality of the music will always survive "the test of the time" .

Appreciate,

Darek

First part until 2:10 is great. Like the sound, athmosphere and melody.

Not my music style but I like all the sounds u used. Everything sounds very clear and nice.

Still on this.

Quiet a unique sound here I like it. Only the hats aren't right for me, I would think more attacking short hats would work better here than shuffle hatz.

Anyway I actually finished a track, a lot of work since last posting but I'm happy enough. Vocals are kinda rough tho.
The trap vocal synth at 1.10 took me bloody hours. not sure if ok or not.

Posted by Evolve140 on Oct-04-2015 07:22:

dialing in a bit more to the sound im after.

Posted by AlphaStarred on Oct-04-2015 13:52:

^ Percussion sounds pretty good, but the synth part could defo use some work. Maybe make it more drawn out, like in waves?

Posted by Evolve140 on Oct-04-2015 14:22:

yeah needed to take a break from the point i was at. could focus on that a bit more

Wow. This is a gorgeous track. I am no engineer but the bass end sounds really nice on my monitors. The only thing I noticed was maybe turn the clap up a notch?

This is cool, but is the kick a bit small? The snare/snap reminds me of Sasha - Xpander. Nice sound design and overall track!

I agree with Darek on the sound design, it is good, but still could be even better, and I'd imagine his advice is a good step to making it great.

It is a bit dated sounding. Kind of like something Armin would have released 8 years ago or so. Still, if it is the music you love to make, whether or not it is current only matters if you are going for a current sound. Overall, nice uplifting trance song.

I know this forum isn't much into EDM but here is a track that DJ Veaux, Vin Harris & myself recently finished up:
