very good mixing, sounds nice and open - would like the kick to have a bit more weight, not sure its the right kick for this kinda track

either that or a deeper bassline - but i think overall the track is lacking some lowend, not too hard to fix tho!

Really liking this one and very good sound choices, keep it up

Evo are the drums better now?
I was using loops a bit lately but they keep sounding dated, so just did these drums myself from scratch.

Paul, this one is really smooth ride man, like your arrangement, sound selection, levels and overall atmosphere - there is only one think which distracting me from fully embrace this track (my personal take or preference) "your kick" and I can't suggest which one would work better (in my view) but this one doesn't do justice for this production.

Only my $0.02

Nice and oldschool sound. Really smooth. I've got to agree with Darek on the kick, try and find one less boomy and you're there.

Yeah i need a closer listen on the kick cos to me it sounds fine, possibly my monitoring! thanks

I agree about the kick evo. Other then that it sounds clean. You really got alot of tracks going in this thread, what do you do with them? It would be nice to hear the end product and not just snippets.

This is an old track I've been working on lately. My motivation has dried up, but I tried to finish this peace that have lain around for years. I don't know how many hours I have listened to this shit now, I have lost all sense of judgement about it. Is it worth anything, or have I been polishing a turd? Or maybe just been shitting on a turd?

It has potential, but there are some objective errors which could massively improve it. As a start I'd lower that sort of a bass an octave down. And remove that low layer you got going on.

i changed the kick - perhaps the last one was a bit on the heavy side

I'd say call it a day, you've given your best shot, spent a lot of time on it, time to move on. I like the way you use only a few elements at once but I would just suggest you make them more interesting - listen to some up to date trap for ideas of leads etc.

Lush pads - for me the kick is not right because this style of music is very restful and washes over you, but the kick is too dominant - personally I'd go for some little minimal quirky sounding kick and keep it pushed back a bit. Almost like the sound you get if you ever used to make a pretend kick as a kid using a battery and a speaker.

Here's one I will probably send out, what would you change?

Is the bass taking up too much room? Drop 1 a bit lack lustre?

I should probably have lowered that bass in a earlier stage. It sounded better in a way, but it would be a lot of work to make it fit now. Thanks for your suggestion though, will take that with me. If you have anything more on your mind, objective or not, I would appreciate to hear about it.

Thanks, you are right. I will leave it as it is. Some of the sounds are pretty bad, cant argue with that. Hopefully I can present something better in the future.

For starter, the glitching seems off, sounds too mechanical. I would look at that.

And at the start, you have som nasty click going on at the off beat percussion. Other then that the beat is nice.

Im not sure about the sound coming in at 1:23, it doesnt really fit in my opinion. For me, something else would take it's place, maybe a dark vocal sample? I like the drop however.

The second break is good, but again, the same sound as in the first break annoys me. Right at the transition into the break it sounds cool though.

And again, at the end of the track, the glitching, not very tight.

I like the bass, but I think that there are others here that can give you a more reliable opinion about wether it's too big or not.

It got potential if you get it right.

i always like my kicks to have a certain dominance, nothing i hate more than a weak kick - i hear what your saying about fitting in with the track tho

this is really good i have to say. i was listening to a Tale Of Us set and switched to this, it would fit in very well with that style

drop at 2:03 is very good, driving. 2nd breakdown comes in a bit abruptly, some sort of fx there might help to blend it in

im not totally sure about after the 2nd breakdown and i dont think that snare fits, kinda spoils the groove
also id lay off the stutter fx a bit as it sounds a bit too obvious, use sparingly

Excellent and most helpful feedback, I think I've taken on board all suggestions including adding a spookey vocal I made before and Evo I quietened that snare in drop 2

Changed some leed melodies etc
Thanks so much

Posted by Fuxzz on Sep-23-2015 14:29:

Thats better! I like what you did with the melody. Maybe some of the closed hats are a little too loud though? Maybe thats just me.

Pretty cool track, dark as hell.
