The sustained bass is deliberately jumpy and moving around I was after this feel.

Ignore those loud vocal stabs and I have not properly done transitions yet.

I have yet to do a final mixdown but it's better I have your input now to guide me.

Cheers

I am trying to listen to your track Darek but here at work sc wont play just now, so will take a listen later.

yeah the bass seems to sweep up along with some other elements

It has that restful summer deep quality to it. I would again suggest you alter the drums, they are a bit static / loopy and dominating so don't really fit the music.

So to be clear what I am suggesting, maybe start with nice simple kick and short clean open hat, and gradually build the drums as you go because now it sounds like you just apply a standard loop and the open hat on it is very dominant.

One other suggestion, put some simple female reverb drenched vocal stab here n there just to round things off and give it personality.

Thanks! Yeah, i kinda suck at the drums department so i usualy use loops. Maybe it's time to learn something about building drums...

No groove for me on this one mate, it doesn't sound as modern as your other stuff.

Interestingly dark and atmospheric.
Needs more of a journey to somewhere after a while, maybe some loudish dark string orchestra or something with some crashing timpani drums, wailing guitars and so on maybe, even just for a short period to really satisfy the tension. Maybe not

One thing I am certain on though is the drums need to sit better, they need to be a bit quitter as I cannot hear the background too well at times, and also a bit dirtier / some roomy ambience etc so they sit better in the atmosphere you have sculpted.
I find the snare a bit wooley here, could you find a cleaner more acoustic one maybe?

Deffo worth a final push to finish it mate.

Thanks for the feedback all...Was curious to what another ear would find.

I think what he was saying that he doesn't like me anymore - I assuming that this is not really his style and I do understand that -> I can't make everyone happy

Thank Paul,

Here is another version. The sound is clearer a bit, i think. Also added new guitar layer which is pretty cool imo . Drums are still dull.

Edit.. day after... that guitar is not fiting and is used too much... Weird how your brain is tricked that everything is fine after you listen same thing for hours...

Edit 2.. tweaked that guitar a bit, still not sure...

Yes sounding clearer but yaa you need to get the hats n stuff in keeping with the track, I like the kick tho

I've tried to make the mix better, and made a lot of changes.

2 things that bother me, 1) the vocals 2) the rises aren't epic enough

Is this only a sketch of vocals?

I would use that vocal part you have much more... it's very soothing, has good melody and gives a power to the song. Starting at 0:49, repeat that vocal part again at 1:00 and on with variations until 1:30... And later use it more. If you want It's your song

good production skills, whats lacking for me is the songwriting part, need to work on better melodies, progressions, hooks etc

keep it up!

Sounds nice as is, personal preference would have me reach to fill out the bottom end or keep what you have and make it sustain/release longer and be more aggressive, you would probably have to redo the kick. Perhaps you can have a layer of bass, then sidechain it to the repeating bass; something to fill up the space.

Raphie said I keep slammin everything, and someone else said stuff of mine sounds too smashed, so I have done no mastering, just a limiter not set to loud.

Wanting to get the mix there, then master / give it to Raphie.

Cheers

I made an 'ok' (not great) video, thought I'd post it here for the hell of it (will take it down if label signs it - a label says they've signed it but it's now gone quiet for a few weeks, so who knows...)

hello

IMO the sub is too stereo should be mono, and its not working with the kick.

Perhaps try side chaining the bass to make room for the kick at the moment they are masking each other big time and i cant hear the sub part of the kick at all which means the track has no low end power. I think this kind of music needs low end energy in the kick really

thats the biggest problem imo, i like all the chords and music etc but think you could use more reverb and delay to give more depth

mix wise i think you may need to increase the level of your hats a bit

Hi

This is quite an early WIP, please don't judge the mix yet

Also it will have vocals so there is plenty of space left for that

Thank you all

Chris

Everything seems to be where it should be... and it has a good suspense feeling. Nice progression at 1:04. Waiting for vocals

Sounds phat as u like Chris, nice one, and interesting to. This Spartan mix is what I'm trying to go after now, less clutter, a speciality of yours.

Posted by Richard Butler on Aug-07-2015 21:58:

Need a vocalist for this one, talk to you soon Chris..

Trying to keep it 'less is more'

Percussion, repetition and structure is on point.

Mixing aside, I would personally try to bring out that background pad a bit sooner and more present in the breakdown section, feels like it loses just a bit of momentum there initially after the beats stop before you bring in those sweepish sounding things.

------------------

Here is a new one I am working on, feedback on the mixing and arrangement would be great as this is the first project I have mixed on my new Monitors. I plan on doing some micro editing stuff with the percussion so its not final yet:
