It's a PC3X (88-weighted key workstation/ROMpler/synth). And, no, it's not the 80s thing that L4C is thinking of (K-series), but it is based on that generation and, yeah, its orchestra samples do sound a bit dated. If you've turned on a radio or seen a movie in the past 8 years or so, then you've definitely heard this. Like most Kurzweils, it's highly regarded for its piano sounds, but it's not just a ROMpler - it has V.A.S.T. synthesis built into it, which is widely regarded as one of the deepest virtual synth engines available in hardware (and a complete PITA to work with!).

even the drawer is wrong lol.

i dont get it lol. tidy up bro, you your gear right.

Wow a double post, i'll copy from the dj booth

Their not 1210's their RP7000's and they fit in good, I put them in there for so i can fit short power cord and rca cable. i dont get vibration anyway from studio monitors. Its not like i stepped on a frag mine blown my leg off for christ sake.

rotating the screens would be a decent option, I have two horizontal, and one almost flat in front which has a the mix console on it - works quite well, might replace the flat one with a touch screen at some point after the summer (where I'll be stuck with a virus ti and a macbook + headphones)

My first ever studio pic!

All good things come in small packages

Posted by djnitride on Jul-06-2014 21:43:

Man, I need to layer my desk more like yours Andy. Its hard without doing that to have access to both your computer keyboard and MIDI keyboard, as well as any additional equipment.

Is that a Virus TI Snow? Very nice

Posted by Andy28 on Jul-06-2014 22:04:

I just cut up some mdf and screwed it on top of my old computer trolly, cost less than 10 quid

Had to downsize my midi keyboard, but I can't play anyway so the micro does the job for bashing out notes when I need to.

Posted by PaULiN0 on Jul-06-2014 23:41:

Very simple and elegant. I'm liking it Andy!

Have some nice jam sessions with the TR-8 and TB-3 I take it Raphie. Also, is that Synth on the left a Prophet 12? If so how do you think it sounds considering it is an analog / digital hybrid?

Posted by Raphie on Jul-07-2014 17:45:

Yes the aira's are good fun, nothing i can't do in cubase, but the interface is just great.
The P12 is a monster, like a P08 with more bite, still very happy with it

Posted by PaULiN0 on Jul-08-2014 03:03:

Shit i'm jealous Raphie.

Not sure what your wanting them for but I went for the 2.6 quad i7 with fusion drive.. It preforms well but hell do they get hot!! You can upgrade ram too so just get the 4gb if you order and install extra yourself.

Yes I know
So, after summer probably will swap the Bass Station 2 for a PRo 2
what you don't see on this pic is that i upgraded my RME HDSPe MADI to a MADI FX, and owhh boy my latency is soo low now.

Posted by chris marsh on Jul-10-2014 21:40:

curious as to what you do as a day job raphie?? you must be doing well

Posted by soulstar606 on Jul-11-2014 01:38:

well, there is a school of thought that says it's better to get multiple macminis and spread the workload out instead of just one macbook, so one macmini for samples, one for projects and then some master laptop http://www.gearslutz.com/board/musi...o-mac-mini.html

Presenting my new production workhorse:

768 megs of Ram in this bad boy. Fear me.

Posted by djnitride on Jul-19-2014 00:32:

That's brutal meriter.

The question is how far can it be pushed? This reminds me of those crazy guys in the demo scene who take great pleasure in working with ancient hardware or limiting themselves to some insane requirements.

Documentary about it here: http://molemanfilm.com/moleman-2-download/

Posted by meriter on Jul-19-2014 00:50:

well, to be fair it has a faster processor than the G4 tower I was using for years, but there was external gear to go along with it. It's job was just midi in/out and recording audio. I don't actually intend to make music with this thing it's just something with an internet connection so I can look for work and not be dead in the water

Although I bet I could get a fair amount done in Logic 8 and some older synths if I just bounced everything to audio right away. it's the internet it's having a hard time with. Adobe stuff should be a breeze

Posted by Dj Dizzy on Jul-23-2014 03:21:

Raphie, i'm jealous. really nice setup!

i posted this in the DJ Booth but probably should've posted it here since most of my gear is production-related. this is my current setup, my place is small so i fit stuff where i can.

Bedroom setup:
Access Virus TI Polar
Dell quad core laptop (intel core i7, 16gb ram) w/ Ableton
Sony MDR7506 headphones

Other room setup:
Roland JP8000
Focusrite Scarlett 8i6
iMac w/ Logic Pro
2 x Technics 1210mk2's
Gemini CS-02 5 channel mixer
2 x Behringer Truth b2013a's (i'm not a behringer fan but i've had these for many years)
Sennheiser HD headphones
couldn't fit my vinyl in the pics, except for superseal

Posted by Lith on Aug-02-2014 07:23:

I like how you can't determine anything about someone based on their setup. One person could have a messy bedroom but write an awesome song on a laptop. Another person has a pristine, sound-proofed room with racks full of gear but might write shit.

Can't judge a person by their home studio.

That doesn't describe anyone here, just the extreme ends of the spectrum--there is no "one right way" to do things.

Although I am jealous of the clean setups, it looks like you can jump right in! Raphie's and Cryo's especially

@meriter A man with a laptop and a beer can do some powerful things, do it wisely haha!
