almost exact same synths as i had 5 years ago only not the G2 and my virus was 1HE C (rack xl). and my microQ was black and pink. they all suck though.

Posted by Looney4Clooney on Aug-07-2013 14:16:

you had the G1 ? I can't see you programming sylenth let alone the nord modular . THey are all classics which is the point. And the B sounds better than the C.

Posted by Zak McKracken on Aug-07-2013 14:43:

no i had the nord rack 3 which was ok, easy to program but coloured limited sounds. the virus rack xl (1HE version of C) was just terrible to program with its 4 knobs and buttons but had some nice presets and alot of functionality yet terrible soft efex. microQ had some ok pad-presets and other stuff, and was ok to program but all in all they were all quite bad experiences in total imo. the jp8080 was actually the best of them with its limitations yet many knobs and great sounding waveforms. the only synth id ever want again of these typical VAs would be nord rack 2x but basically i dont see the fuzz about hardware without enough knobs to be instant to all available parametres. i dont think theres any difference between virus b and c when it comes to sound quality, only the c has more "stuff". it might be just me but i really didnt think it sounded any better than software. probably because i didnt have an pcie ssd and focals at the time (dont know if it even existed then).

Posted by Looney4Clooney on Aug-07-2013 15:23:

C has has the moog filters which give it a rounder sound. The b is just crispier. In many ways how the nord 2 sounds better than the nord 3. And the g1 has the nord 2 engine only programmable and then some and the g2 has the nord 3 engine. They are great for audio dsp mangling with their audio ins.

Woukd never use the actual knows when I can make my own controller viatouchosc.

does touchosc work well?

Brilliant. I prefer to ruin an iPad than wreck an encoder. Lemur app is also just tits. It might seem intimidating for many but if you know basic programming, it is really just awesome.

every console needs a built-in ashtray

i remember seeing the lemur for the first time years ago at my friend's place pre ipad and freaking out.... the gravity balls!!!

Posted by Looney4Clooney on Aug-09-2013 01:51:

ya. It is fucking crazy tho. I mean assigning all those balls to parameter and just letting it go.

For some reason , i feel like it is missing a few objects from the actual hardware version.

the hardware version was just so fucking solid... built like a tank and dedicated... ipad still feels like an ipad.. also it had the great buttons for switching screens the ipad does not if im not mistaken

lemur was serious and super expensive when it launched

The Lemur app uses virtual buttons that are assigned by default for each page/screen in your modules. It's very cool, maybe not as cool as the original, but very cool anyway.

56 TB thunderbolt storage
and then older 21 TB USB

just going thru all my drives checking the sectors. Well these are the ones that have to be tested. I about 8 other TB drives being tested right now.

paranoid much.

Latest incarnation of my setup. Now in the master bedroom with some acoustic panels instead of just drapes on the wall. The spare bed's a bonus

spare beds are great sound treatments

depends on the type of mattress. A spring box ain't going to do much.

You should be paranoid; those are some mighty nice Electromagnets you have on those shelves next to your drives. Better still, they work as mid sized EMP's when there's a lightning strike

Posted by Looney4Clooney on Aug-14-2013 03:17:

they aren't plugged in.And how does a guitar head create an EMF

Hey L4C

Why you need so many hard drives?

That is actually uncannily close to what one of the machine rooms at work looked like, with exception to the lighting.

my hardrives sort of just happened as incremental increases and a rep that gets me them at cost.

I would much rather have server design back up but i'm not sure where i am going to be in 2 years.
