Please stop. Not joking. Stop posting until you have an actual work in progress and not yet another two minutes of boring.

Well-produced boring is still boring.

Boring or not am i suppose to have chord progressions that early in the track? How am i suppose to create tension in 2 mins beginning> why don't you tell how to correct that than not contributing at all and just saying its well produced but boring LOL.

Posted by deegee on Feb-12-2015 08:30:

You could, I dunno, write the rest of the track? Maybe post the breakdown and build instead of the intro?

Posted by deegee on Feb-12-2015 08:33:

As for how to create tension... play around with rhythms. Drop a beat out here and there. Have a repetitive hypnotic synth line. A series of chords/notes that don't resolve; maybe something that ends on a diminished chord, and then you crack it into the full chord later in the track. Escalating acid lines--futz with the cutoff and reso. Anything.

Have you ever considered writing the melody/chord progression first and then building the track around it? Your WIPs stop every time it's actually time to get creative.

You need to focus less on the technical aspect and more on the songwriting. No amount of new gadgets is going to help you do that.

Posted by Looney4Clooney on Feb-12-2015 13:23:

Just grab a paper and plot your track. Then make a to dol list. Andy then do it. You will start to have brtter sense of the big picture which can often elude people. I'm pretty sure you mentioned or I infered you are on the AS. Thst typically makes the person even more detail oriented which would explain your trouble with the less specific big picture things.

oh this turned into anti intro thing, got it.

Posted by Mr.Mystery on Feb-12-2015 19:06:

Yes, that's right. We're posting because we hate intros.

Jesus fucking christ.

Dude, intros are not a work in progress, because intros are all you ever do. It's also really easy to bang out a serviceable intro in about twenty minutes.

It's everything else that's tear-your-hair out difficult. And what you keep posting is, as I keep saying, very nicely produced. But there's nothing to it. Protip: it's only a work in progress if you're actually going to do something with it, and not just post virtually the same thing a week later. And the week after that.

Seriously. Want to get some real feedback? Not that you'll listen to any of it, but still: post something with a freakin' melody. Something other than kick/hat/snare/bass/FX.

Posted by Innocence Lost on Feb-12-2015 20:11:

Aww bohoo.

An intro is not a WIP because its all I ever do? doesn't make any sense LOL.

And there's not one snare in any of my WIPS.

Thats not actually a pro tip at all. You def have no idea what I'm going to do next and if you think its another intro after this one than I guess thats your problem and perspective on things. Basically, every intro WIP was failure before this one and you did not know it.

Posted by deegee on Feb-12-2015 20:23:

An intro isn't a work in progress any more than writing the table of contents for an unwritten book is a work in progress. There needs to be some there, there.

Posted by Innocence Lost on Feb-12-2015 20:24:

Because there isn't a main climax? lmao!

Posted by Storyteller on Feb-12-2015 20:25:

Okay how about this. You're the WIP, stuck in a rut and offended by advice that might be harsh. However, it is given with the right intentions and the way it seems is as if you continuously choose to ignore it. mr Mystery is not the problem here. If you really want to improve, try and take it for what it is, to help you become a better producer that goes beyond the (already too long) two minute intros.

Posted by Innocence Lost on Feb-12-2015 20:26:

1. I'm not offended

2. I never said uglyboy was the problem

3. You plan on changing their diapers too? ffs.

Posted by Innocence Lost on Feb-12-2015 20:27:

No more intro's, fine with me.

Carry on,

Because there isn't a single melodic element! Kick hat bass hat kick hat bass hat is not a trance track, and there's nothing to critique.

Write. A. Melody. Even a crappy one. Write a chord progression. Even a crappy one. Those things will let people be able to say "Well, okay, if you tried doing this and this instead it might sound better."

Funnily enough the same discussion took place several months ago.
