The virus stays under the desk as i dont have space on top really and just program/automate using virus control

Got a few more traps coming this week too

The desk is a studio RTA Creation station - they dont seem to have it in stock at Thomann.De anymore, but have plenty of others

The Sherman is a very interesting bit of kit imo, more like a distortion box than a typical filter its noisy and a bit unpredictable but thats what makes it so interesting! I bought it when i wanted to produce DnB, and i think its more useful for that genre than trance due to the rawness and analog character, but cant bring myself to sell it (i tend to sell other hardware bits that i dont use much) as its so unique.

Same with the pulse i dont use it much at the mo but cant bring myself to sell it (its not worth much anyway)as it has such a big, raw sound

Who the hell is this guy? But nice studio!

Posted by Looney4Clooney on Nov-07-2012 22:50:

not sure but he should read up on room acoustics as that sort of treatment won't do a fucking thing except make things worse.

How do you find the Q? i fancy one of those!

Posted by Looney4Clooney on Nov-07-2012 23:19:

I have one a blofeld which is sort of the Q+ some stuff and largo the software that is pretty much the blofeld. Largo sounds better than the hardware version.

Posted by evo8 on Nov-07-2012 23:29:

had a blofeld but got rid of it, just found it waaaay to tedious to program

Q is much better in that department, really nice sound as well, probably too much overlap between it and the virus - i didnt expect to get the both of them at the same time but they are there now!

Posted by Looney4Clooney on Nov-07-2012 23:35:

i found the Q much more raw and a little more round. The fx were also different. The Q does have that sort of distortion when just playing one osc. saw 3 notes spread apart, you start to get those non linearities and oscillations that sound great.

largo is just so much easier to mix.

I just find it much more enjoyable with hardware, i get sick of using the mouse all the time, its nice sometimes to sit there and program some sounds, i just find i come up with sounds i wouldnt come up with on softsynths, i just end up using presets

id say Largo is close enough to the blofeld sound that you wouldnt raelly tell them apart blindfolded

thats exactly the reason i like the pulse so much, although its monophonic of course, but you detune 3 saws by a few semitones, turn up the amp for some analog saturation and already you have an extremely fat, nasty sound

Posted by Looney4Clooney on Nov-09-2012 23:03:

ya i regret selling the pulse. What a monster.

whats your gear nowadays? You seem to have some history/knowledge about the hardware.

Posted by Looney4Clooney on Nov-09-2012 23:43:

practical - all software

experimentation - i like to route synths to other synths in particular the nord G1 and the micromod but this is really when i'm just experimenting.

I find the fx you add can just change the synth completely, the ability to send it to multiple aux doing multiband stuff, sending the signal to the input of another synth like absynth in real time.

I do check kijiji and pick up anything that is nostalgic but it is not really something that gets used for actual practical things.

I find almost al the guys doing real cutting edge sound design are pretty much using 100% software.
