Here's an updated version of the track I posted a couple of weeks back. It's still purely a headphone mix, so don't pay too much attention to the levels.

this has potential. currently for me the kick is letting it down - mix needs a lot of work like you say

reminds me of old Bedrock in a way

Yeah, back site need some work to tighten it a bit but melody sounds really good - I still would like to hear some more action in this WIP but I guess for this type of genre it is OK the way you have it right now.

As far as your kick - doesn't sound to distracting to me at all but you could (if you are using Ableton) put glue compressor on your drums (with kick) to control its character a bit

Cheers,

Darek

Mixwise this sounds too wooden and the drums need re-doing from scratch as they are sort of acting like a drag on the track. I quite often find myself with this wooden / cabinet mix type and it's not easy to fix.

I quite like the track though.

The kick is too detached from the mix and a bit loud. Maybe add some sort of roomy layer to it with a short reverb but make sure it sounds natural. The stabs etc could be a lot more in your face and a bit sweeter I think. I agree about one of the stab parts sounding dissonant.
The bass is tight. Overall could work well if you make some of the sounds more special and mix the kik better.

The thing is, I've been working on this on the road while working and haven't had a chance to check out the mix on my monitors yet.

I really, really like this. For me (on headphones), a little spit and polish in the levels and it's done.

So I've almost finished that DnB track I've been pounding away on for months following useful feedback.
I removed the boring organs and really made loads of changes.

Any final comments and advice very welcome

This sounds way better without those organs! Way way way way way better. Drums sound great. The breakdown is really, really nice. This is my favourite track I've heard from you in a really long time. I think you could get this one signed to a pretty solid label.

I think this is done now... I did a bunch more work on the kick drum to make it have more punch and power. Trap kick drums are actually pretty tough to get right.

Thx Droid, I feel I still need to even out and mix better here n there as it's clashing some, plus a few other bits of tidying needed and to remove the last cycle of vocals and just finish with instruments. Bass maybe a bit strong in the mids.

Your track sounds stonking mate. Lots of great touches.

I have been doing some trap lately and yes it's real hard.
To my mind the best trap stuff is very uncluttered, just a massive lead with drums and some bass. Kids round my way seem to be drawn to the tracks that sound more weird and leftfield, there's on in particular they all go mad for which sound like sampled sheep.
There's also this track that sounds like honking Elephants that goes down well here.
They also seem to enjoy uplifting DnB so I didn't get why Beatport apparently doesn't have DnB as a main selling category. The style most of the kids round here do NOT go for is 4 to the floor.

Top notch, I specially like the piano and the air of the cymbals. As Seandroid said, this definitely has potential.

Solid work here, nothing I can point.

After the feedback here is an update.

Better, Mise, but the second half of the stab phrase still sounds weird.

You have four notes - two - two

So, the second half of the phrase would work better by following 4-2-2 as a pattern but changing the actual notes up a bit.

Instead you're getting 4-2-4-2-2-2, which just sounds very odd. It produces a strange bridge between the halves of the phrase that throws off the rhythm and flow every time it plays. (I'm sorry, I don't have perfect pitch and so can't identify the notes).

Said it before, saying it again: this is the best. I cannot convey how much I love this track.

Mise I like the phrase that is featured from about 2.04 to 2.34, with that stab on every snare.
I personally think this is the stand out part and would want to hear those stabs in the break without the other stuff in the background, and then on the drop the stabs going massive. This stab theme should be repeated often thru the track. I like the mix.

Just my 2 dollars worth of advice.

If i remember the last version this is a great improvement of the mixing. Maybe vocals little out of phase but everything else seems to be tight. The composition of this track is the shit though. Wonderful breakdown and leadup.

This is very much in works but i mainly wanted to ask about the chord lead, how does it sound? And can the bass line (0:45-->) be as crazy as i have in there?

Richard - How much are you compressing this track?

Sounds good on my end (this chord lead) but you will need to EQ your bass line a bit more tight (just a bit so doesn't float too much) - good start man.

such chord

very house

wow

(I find the bassline intrusive but the clip doesn't go on long enough to hear if it finds its place with repetition)

Sean you know the drill lol - I'm gonna skip the usual how good your track is lol and how awesome your skills are and move right to my point (btw it is very cleaver and cool work) - what is your limiter setting on your master - looks like is working in overtime lol

Trying to figure out where I'm suppose to start, hmmm - first at all - turn you volume down!!! - you don't have to push it so much man lol - second, how many arps you have in this track - push it back a bit and allow your main melody to be hear lol - just to start our conversation.

Cheers,

Darek

Here's a 2 min intro i started today.

Posted by deegee on Jan-28-2015 18:03:

All the background stuff is nice and soft, which makes that kick way, way too hard and forward. The kick needs to be dropped down in the mix and replaced--something softer, a little closer to a classic 808 or 909. The kick you're using would be great in a blistering hard trance track, which this is not.
