Can tell you, clarity and detail are just staggering, if there are flaws, you'll hear them here. also volume and pressure and control is immense, 33% volume is already LOUD.

Not to mention that it's very hard to get the phase of the sub in perfect sync with the monitors which is essential if you want to hear your bass properly.
I recently switched from a 2.1 system to a stereo system and the difference is huge.

Agreed: a bad phased 2.1 system is worse than a 2.0.

It takes some practise, but there is nothing that REW, a tape measurer and a Behringer EMC8000 can't solve.

man id love to have a separate room for my studio. would be awesome.

Posted by Storyteller on May-08-2011 13:48:

Really nice stuff there Raphie. Light space as well. Love that. Can only hope that at a certain point in time I can afford myself something along those lines and use it abundantly

Ikea has one but its made of light weight cheap mdf which will resonate like a mofo (have quite some experience with reso lol).

I know mopads works great against resonance but with the genelecs there included stands that works pretty well actually, but a big dinnertable plate will resonate no matter what you put on it. It was just for a test. This is all temporary too, im producing in my couch most of the time now, with long firewire cable to the soundcard on the floor lol. but to get a real good listen its better to sit on the floor directly infront of the speakers.

this is more how it looks everyday:

My "studio" looks pretty much the same, except I only use my HD-25 instead of speakers.

Posted by Raphie on May-09-2011 14:15:

ThnX, happy with it as well, still some space left in my right cabinet, might get myself a mint JP8080 just for old time sake (though the JX6P is fun as well)
but then it's really over, got everything i wanted (and more)

Also, nice one on FF UFX - got one and love the shit out of it, replaced my Yamaha 01v96 v2 with that.

Anywho.

Thanks Raphie

@aNYthing - takes them a while to run in, the website i bought them of recommended 60hrs lol - so ill give them a few weeks before making judgement - cost me 2270 euro delivered, not cheap at all so im waiting to be impressed! Translation is the main thing im hoping will improve...

Roland JV, Nord, RME interface, Focals, you're ready for some real nice moodfull productions now. I bet you can hear "the love vibe" when using your gear, it's that step where you suddenly go from the quite ok sound to the wow phreaking lovely this sounds sound.....

Posted by SoundMagus on May-30-2011 08:54:

This is the room i am currently about to build.
Its not to scale, as i am still learning the software that does the drawing.
All the bass traps/diffusion will be built by me (unless i can find a thai guy to do it really cheap).

Should be an interesting project

Mark

well yeah hopefully! I dont think you need all this gear but hey, its sure nice to have it all the same

@SoundMagus - looks like a nice plan, cant beat the old basstraps!

Posted by Raphie on May-30-2011 10:21:

SoundMagus, did you calculate the size of the helmholtz, or is it just random? which frequencies are you attacking with that?
What's the size of the room? looks quite big, or did u just draw the desk very small?

Posted by SoundMagus on May-30-2011 10:34:

Evo8 - Yeah the more the merrier, alhtough a lot of those are actually diffusion/defraction as well as absorption (the yellow bits are GLASS :O).

Raphie - I havent calculated anything yet. I will be doing full measurements when i move in on the 8th of June.
I just got my measurement mic today and i will be using REW to make all calculations and measurements and putting/placing defraction/diffusion and absorption (as well as a cloud) in the appropriate areas

If you've got a Behringer EMC8000 non calibrated, use the generic CAL file and don't worry too much about above 10K as it probably rolls of more on the graphs than IRL

Posted by evo8 on May-30-2011 11:21:

hey do any of you guys know how to use REW properly??? I cant for the life of me get it set up right - i was using a demo version of fuzzmeasure before but the nag screens are getting annoying

I remember in the setup menu it said to make sure the MIC input was peaking around -18dbfs whilst the program played thru a white noise burst
I found i was having to push the mic gain really high, almost to the edge of a nasty feedback loop, im a bit scared to run a full sweep thru with the mic that high, does it need to be set that high - im assuming its to bring it above background noise???

Posted by Raphie on May-30-2011 11:38:

correct, it's a delicate balance between playing volume and mic input volume, play first 75db from 1 speaker (or 83db from 2 in parallel) and then adjust your mic input to read about -20db or so don't need to go all the -18, as long as you are in the "OK" zone

Posted by SoundMagus on May-30-2011 12:41:

Raphie - I tried to get the EMC 8000 but they are discontinued so i settled on a Peavey PVR 2.

It arrived here in Thailand from the UK which arrived there from Germany.

It DOESNT FUC##'G work!! I am totally pi##ed off as this now means i need to send back to uk, then it needs to be sent back to Germany then the whole process needs to start again, damn what a nightmare lol

Mark

PS - First time i have received ANYTHING from a company which is completely DEAD - it seems weird to me but there you have it.
