yeah still sounds a bit odd to me - like a serious "smiley curve" going on frequency wise

I don't go in for this sort of music much now but this is lovely, it just totally flows and washed over me in a good way. It's the type of track I would stick on when on holiday in the sun and wanting inspiration to work out to.
The kick is slightly lost but don't change it much as you could loose the vibe maybe.
Personally some nice repeated vocal would go in here well after a minute or so - something like 'your love is like rain' - just something simple.
To break things up some I'd suggest a little snare / tom type riff lasting 1 second or less at the end of say each 31st bar when most of the rest of the track could drop out for a mo.

The beat and song structure aren't really issues as they wouldn't be staying that way, I've only laid the ideas down in a linear fashion.
The main problem is I'm bored of the typical prog/trance song structure and I don't really know how to break away from it.

thank you for the feed back i will work on the perc more and il see about some eq on the sound you mean.

It sounds a bit flat (perhaps due to lack of mastering?) but otherwise I very much liked the structure and track as a whole. Nice layering throughout. It sounds pleasant and memorable, and I'd consider finishing it - not something to just toss away.

I felt somewhat similar with the acid techno structure, and the only thing that remains is to either keep pushing the boundaries with different effects, sampling, and MIDI, or to switch to another genre altogether so you don't feel your creativity stagnating. In my case it was switching completely to piano, and I've only recently bought gear again to perhaps get back into it (I've never really learned MIDI before, so it would certainly take things to the next step).

Need your help, guys. I have two edits of the same track here (original and shorter re-edit) and I'm not sure which to keep, nor if I should keep/upload any of them to Soundcloud. It was a live take long ago, (perhaps a 30-minute track or so) and I've tried to make it into one short, complete work. Would like to know if it works, flows relatively smoothly, transitions, etc.

Lol, really interesting when you are saying that you are not feeling it at all but you still striving to finish it - like your melody, structure, levels and sounds choice but (as somebody mention this already) some dynamics and energy is not on the same level. This type of music needs to grab your emotional part of your attention and interplay with it until the end of the track.
Still really lovely idea worth of investing more time

I don't like to leave loose ends
Maybe I just need to play around with it until it clicks. All the fundamental elements are already there.

I will give you my opinion on this track but it is strictly my personal view/perspective on it.
There is two important parts of this track: one -> is from the beginning till around 1:50 and the second one -> is from about 3:00 min mark till around 3:56 which if I where you I would structure your whole track around - those to parts (and particularly the second one) have really cool drive and energy which if you find the way to extrapolate into longer part and blend it with some sweet and emotional break then you might/could have a winner
Just my 0.02$ - Darek

It is not going to be easy task as you need to be ably to feel and strive on the emotional part of this WIP - dynamics and depth of your sounds will play extremely important part of this track development.
But, knowing you - "CAN BE DONE"
Cheers,
Darek

After a long time out of the game, I'm trying to take it up again. This is a remix of Cryophonik's old track from way back.

As you said that you like to turn those clikety-clak HI freqs, i cant help but feel that the mid area is still kinda odd. I mean like its squished and has mud. What do you have on your master buffer?
The vocals are nice, but they seem to be at the same range as some elements like the piano, like 0:44. Few touches to them should fix it.
Your beats and perc work is still solid!

Sructure is okay for the most part.

I can't really comment on the track because it's not in a style I really enjoy so I don't think I could be useful. Production seems tight though--and I looooooooove the vocal. Overprocessed for my taste but I like it a lot.

- the clap or snare is distorted in a way that just doesn't work with the rest of the track. try softening it out a bit--it punches too much through the mix for me. After the breakdown it's much better.
- I like that pad/synth sound that shows up around 0:50. Sounds very smooth, for lack of a better term. Probably something I'd fix on if I were hearing it on a dancefloor.
- the off-8 blip at the beginning is just distracting, doesn't feel like it's sitting in the mix
- the vocals also don't feel like they're sitting in the mix--too front and centre. It's a little bit better when the vocal first enters during the breakdown
- I like the breakbeat in the breakdown, though there's some weird stuttering? I'd turn the whole phrase with the kick-snare-kick-snare into a breakbeat
Other than that this feels like it's got some great pieces, but it doesn't feel like it goes much of anywhere. There's no real energy buildup or release, not even just sort of a relentless/driving/hypnotic feel to fit in a set somewhere. I'd like to feel more of a splash when the vocals kick in, you know? Don't get me wrong, I don't think this is terrible; as said above the basic structure is there, just needs some shaping.
Anyone care to have a go at this WIP? I'm mainly at the stage where I'm endlessly fussing with tiny things so I can avoid doing a final mixdown. I'm aware some of the EQ needs work--waiting for some time with a friend's good monitors. Thoughts, anyone? Don't hold back.

Firstly thanks for listening to mine - I have been toying with the idea of layering them with a less processed background choir vocal but I'm in 2 minds about it. I think hatz are a bit loud now (too quiet before)?
YOUR TRACK - what a nice opening you have here, it's sound nicely mixed and I dig the slightly retro sound choices a lot.
I'll be honest it's a great foundation for a track but I don't like where it goes after the minute or so intro, that guitar type sound for me is far too repetitive and the choir pad is too basic and obvious, I wanted you to continue with the dancey feel, I was expecting interestingly timed stab type sounds to be the main parts, not this choir and guitar, but as ever this is only a taste judgement, others may think differently.
Good work though.

Cool vibe you've got going on here! Be sure to EQ/sidechain the piano out a bit more when the vocals are in. They seem to be fighting for the same bit of space. Really can't think of anything else to say .

I didn't know what to say as I am so out of touch with acid style. I loved some Billy Nasty from back in the day and of course the opening tune from Blade1. I took a listen again to yours just now, sound ok but not really grabbing the attention.
I always feels these acid tracks get ruined when the 303 filters are opened and the resonance pierces the skull. Would pref a much more closed 303 sound all the way through.

Shanks mang! Funny how it turned out to sound like a choir... that's four or five different pad sounds layered and filtered together, ha.
I'm going to fiddle around with some stabby stab stab sounds and see what happens. The retro thing is basically because I'm old.

Ok I had a listen. Bear in mind that oldschool techno isn't really my thing (I'll usually go for realllllllllly ultra minimal if I'm going there), so maybe I'm missing the point.
- there's no tension. Trance may be the extreme end of the dance music build/break/release pattern, but all music thrives on the building and release of tension. It's just sort of... here's a loop, 16 bars, here's another. With little-to-no variation, you're missing even little attempts to provide resolutions. You could even try varying every eighth bar of your acid--reverse the pattern or chop it up or fiddle with your cutoff and q.
- you could go the totally opposite direction and aim for more hypnotic, but for that you're going to need to rely on much longer transitions between phrases.
- your transitions are kind of blunt. one of the things about the tension/resolution structure is that every time you resolve, it gives you a natural point to introduce something new.
- The LFO on your filter starting right at the beginning never varies; try playing with it a bit to introduce that tension. It's a fun acid line, so mess with it. Stretch it out, futz around with its speed every 8 or 16 bars, something
- There's sort of a stilted stuttery feel to the perc section. Feels a little bit like that big room Martin Garrix thing without ever quite getting there
I think what I'm trying to say is that the track doesn't quite seem to commit to being any one thing. It's not varied enough to be in your face blistery acid tech, not relaxed enough to be something more minimal and hypnotic. Try pushing way way way too far in one direction, then dial it back to where it's just right. The bones are good, just needs some fluffing here and there.

Heck I agree with some of it, the whole time I was making this I've been thinking of ways to add more elements, especially the way the track drives and moves I think it stays in one pace most of the time. I think a longer breakdown would help with that but I'm not a huge fan of huge breakdowns.
I'm still working on it, piece by piece.
