Suggest Good TA DJ Mixes

One of the things I like about a lot of the DJs on TA is that they are mainly or even exclusively DJs not producers (and I consider myself an aspiring producer). To me, DJs who aren't as focused on playing their own music or the music of their label are freer in many ways to focus on DJing as an art rather than DJing for promotion. That isn't to say having a track or 3 of your own in a 2 hour set is always bad, but for many it turns into 10-15 of their own tracks, good or not, and the rest recent releases from their friends label.

With that being said, I think there are a lot of talented DJ's out there, and many are not famous. TA can be a ponderous forum, and it isn't that easy to find some of the great sets, a lot of links are dead for example.

So, I thought it would be useful to have a thread where people suggest good sets from TAers. I would say, you can promote 1-2 of your own sets, but I think this should mainly be about suggesting other TAers sets. And for the most part, I think the thread should be more for memorable sets that stand the test of time, rather than just a weekly mix of what is being released that week.

So, an example of the type of set I am looking for is Glaciation from 2006 I believe:

Just recently I did a DJ set for the tranceaddict.com's Colors 2.

https://soundcloud.com/benacosta/ta...lors-vol-2-2015
(also in my sig).

For years now I've been incorporating music from this message board into my DJ sets, especially the early years.

https://soundcloud.com/benacosta/be...e-at-the-avenue

Is another set of mine that I enjoy, and most of it is music from the production studio or the music promotion section of the forums.

Interesting that you chose Glaciation for this, considering every track in that mix was produced by various TA members

The first person that pops to mind for this would be Spike Whitney (TA username "Sunsurge"). His Windmill Sessions Redux mixes are always a win, if you're into the more melodic side of electronica/progressive house/trance. There are currently 30 of them. Find them here on my server:

http://www.sushipunk.net/Mixes/

Nearly every mix in that folder is by a TA member, so knock yourselves out. Older stuff can be found here:

If you're ever having trouble sleeping, listen to one of Paulino's mixes. It'll put you right to sleep

I'm coming up on 5 years with the same sig... I think it's time I post a new mix.

Just like the good old days, haha.

My username is from a era long ago when I'd sit in my frat house every Thursday at 2 pm waiting for ASOT to start streaming on DI. The track list subforum on here was insane back in the day with everyone racing to see who could post the name of the new track first. I'm not really a modern trance guy.

I'll work on getting a new mix up though.

I made several comments on your recent Colors mix soon after it was posted. Nice mix. It looks like one of my tracks is in the second mix! I'll give that one a listen soon.

Your site is a great resource for this topic. I'll check out the mixes you mention. Hope you keep updating the site with more sets both from the past and more recent.

New stuff gets added way less often these days. Years ago, finding decent hosting space for big files like this wasn't so easy. Now, everyone has a Soundcloud/Mixcloud account to use, so I only really add stuff if someone requests it (save for the Windmill Sessions mixes, which I just add to keep them all together, since they're awesome). Pretty cool catalog of TA sets over the years though

It's actually an album, not a set

The OP did suggest that other members can suggest 1 or 2 mixes of their own making (as long as they were in the style of the example he posted)

Yes, I think it is alright to suggest a handful of your own, so long as it is genuinely a favorite and not just promoting the latest mix. I do hope though people will also suggest other peoples mixes.

I am going to listen to as many of the suggestions as I can. Not necessarily immediately but over the next few months.

Hey folks,

Been a while since I popped back.
I guess I will have to band wagon and promote my own shit.

I used to enjoy when DJs used to play long developing sets so threw one together a while back. Back in a time when they were not obsessed with promoting their label and own productions. To be honest I think I have at least one mash up in there but I given that there are nearly 60 tracks in there I figured no one would notice.

It's a 5 hour session which is a tribute to the Ibiza scene when it was at its peak.

Of course it may just put you to sleep, and I found that the amount of time was detrimental to obtaining listeners but I actually really enjoyed recording it. It's also done in one take.

Notion of Emotion Eternity by Calvin Karass on Mixcloud

Actually, if I had to recommend anyone it would have to be my man Jon Cockle.

http://www.tranceaddict.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=705198&forumid=73&s=#.VNKvDi4lqZE

I had the privilege of playing on the same night as him in Brighton late last year.
Worth a listen.

Cheers
Nem

Juan, I think this is more along the lines of a promo mix type set. I have in mind this thread being more for sets that really stand out, as in your favorite mix you have done or a great memorable set from another TA member.
