werrrrd.... I don't mind incorporating it (hence my Nuo4 purchase, but entire sets done in Ableton do NOTHING for me... especially if its live in a club...

you can swing your mouse around in the air instead of waving a record.

i just got ableton, and typical me, i never read the manual, i just sorta went, "ya i'll learn this on my own like i did everything else (photoshop, premiere etc...)" and man, am i frickin lost or what...i need that user guide...cause i am seriously lost...

as for entire sets done in ableton, thats just wrong, whatever happened to "DISC JOCKEY" now its fackin "WAV JOCKEY" ???...and yes i consider a vinyl fallin under the term Disc, hence Disc Jockey...i love to see DJ's being technical, look at Luke Slater, the guy is ALWAYS Doing something...i think Ableton just allows you more free time to Jesus Pose...

Where's the guy with the "Jesus Pose Gives ya Magical Powers" Sig when ya need him...

DJing is reduntant.

I believe that Ableton is souless. There is no heart.

I truly believe that when you touch your records your inner energy or Chi gets passed into the grooves and then gets spread around the room and the more Chi you acheive through meditation, the more effect you will have as a DJ.

Cheers

PS!
I am joking about the Chi, but Ableton does sound lifeless, just can't put my finger on it.

Indeed, the interface looks like it was designed by a plastic toy company.

I´ve heard mixes done in it..sounds pretty nice..
I have to sit down and really play around someday when i have enough time..
For me its a good choice..dont have enough cash to buy real cdjs..

part of going to see a 'dj' at a club or any type of venue is the stigma of them being able to kind of interact with the crowd, having a sort of stage presence. 2 out of 10 people at a gig may understand what you are doing with those knobs, but the rest think it looks strange, they expected to see turntables, and a box in the middle with lots of cool lights etc.

in my experience, seeing a 'dj' play a gig with ableton is boring. somebody hunched over a screen, their midi controller on top of one of the 1200's, glancing up at the crowd every now and then. oh and did i mention them frantically trying to find enough space to use their mouse?

now, dj's (cough digweed cough) can have a pretty shitty stage presence as well, but i have yet to see somebody using ableton that trys to go beyond playing good music and really get into it with the people who are there not necassarily because of the music (some of you may not agree with this, but lots of people just like to get fucked up and move around to whatever is coming out of the speakers at very high volumes).

ableton is capable of doing phenominal things with music, but its live perfomance factor (ironic isn't it) isn't so great.

Or you could be like me and stick your midi controller in the closet and use the mouse/keyboard. I find it easier.

OK, so I guess in saying "Why does'nt everyone use Ableton?!" I was being a bit harsh. I just find the program actually incredibly musical. Basically it expands just DJ'ing into a lot of live remixing and re-editing on the fly (not to sound like a freaking commercial for it...but), and I feel if you really learn the program (read the manual\tutorials) you would see what I mean.
I come from LOVING vinyl and CDJ's to honest and I still use them. But I dont see how it could hurt learning to use what a ton of DJ's I really look up to use ie. Richie Hawtin, Matthew Dear, Sasha and even bands.
I play six instruments, all different. Viola, guitar, keys, percussion and a few other oddities, and if a program can allow me to combine my knowledge of that with performing and remixing live the dance music I love, I find it pretty fresh and exciting.
My 2 cents

Did'nt meen to start a flame war or a "post #262624624672"
